The Story

On December 1, 2012 four 17 year old high school students were returning home from a local college basketball game when their vehicle was blindsided on the highway.  The reckless 22 year old driver hit them from behind - he was speeding, texting, high and drunk.

Chris Stewart (our son) and Deanna Rivers were killed immediately. Bailey Wind (Christopher's girlfriend) and Matt Hardy (Deanna's boyfriend) were severely injured, hospitalized and continue in their healing process.

Chris was one of the 2012 captains of the Shenendehowa Plainsmen football team with a love for the game and for the school.  He finished out his football season but never got to walk across stage to receive his high school diploma.

In honor of our son Chris, we are fundraising to renovate the old and dated media box on the football field (photo attached).  We are looking for a way to improve the school facilities and honor the legacy of our son at the same time.

This exciting, state of the art building will benefit many sports and schools around the area.  It makes sense for us to do something in/near the football stadium as Chris spent thirteen seasons playing ball at SHEN.

Our family would like to thank the school administrators, students, families and the entire community for embracing us and holding us close to your hearts.  We are committed to staying here with you!

We envision the Christopher Stewart Media Box to be an enhancement to the current space, welcoming spectators and visitors to the stadium.  We seek to provide new opportunities for hosting other area sports teams by offering space to conduct interior pre/post interviews and providing a comforable setting for the media and announcers.  We anticipate updating the communications system and adding a second level for scouting/viewing purposes. The new Media Box will be visually and esthetically attractive to see upon arrival into the stadium.

Our beautiful son will always be a part of Shenendehowa and to allow his legacy to hold a place on the campus would be wonderful.  Please help us make it a reality.

We will be sure to announce the dedication night in hopes you will be there with us and we hope to fill the stadium to kickoff the ribbon cutting for this fantastic new addition to the Shenendehowa CSD campus.

Please make your tax deductible donation today.

You can also follow us on Facebook at RIP CHRIS STEWART where we post additional information about our fundraising efforts and what we are up to with NYS legislation to toughen the DWI and distracted driving laws.

On behalf of our family, thank you for considering our cause and helping us see it thru.

Fundraiser Updates

UPDATE: (Sept 2017) - There has now been added photos to this fundraiser page of the proposed Christopher F. Stewart Memorial Media Box!  We have surpassed our personal goal of raising $100,000 plus we now have the support of a NYS grant which puts us in a position to place the order.

HUGE thanks to all of you for helping us, it has been three years of hard work to get this far.

The Media Box will be expensive, even more than we currently have in contributions so this page will remain open.  We appreciate every donation our family, friends and the community has made and are not asking for more - the only thing we could still use a bit of help with is securing corporate donations.  If you work for a large or small company or have a relationship with anyone who does, we'd appreciate it you mentioned our cause.  It would be a tax writeoff for them and a true help to us.

You wouldn't think a Media Box could be so pricy but there's a lot involved when it's on school grounds and has to go thru the NYS planning board.  We had no idea of the true expense when we began fundraising and thought we'd be done well before now.  When all is said and done however, we want it to be everything we could possibly do to make it spectacular for Chris, Shenendehowa CSD and all the students and visitors who see and use it for future years.

Thank you again - and by this time next year you'll be receiving your invitation to be on hand for the ribbon cutting!

Sincerely,

Regina & Mike Stewart

We just surpassed the $75,000 mark!  We are 3/4ths of the way there and appreciate any help in completing this fundraiser to "Build the Box" in Christopher's memory.  All contributions are appreciated and please mention our project to any companies or corporations you know.  This project is sponsored by the Shenendehowa Educational Foundation and all donations are tax deductible.  Thank you for sharing this post and spreading the word.

An amazing $25,000 donation from Mohawk Honda moves the needle to almost $72,000!

When we reach the $100,000 mark the design will be solidified on paper and the blueprints will be send to the state planning board for approval.

We hope you'll share our story and this fundraiser link so we can make this a reality ASAP and a wonderful memorial for Chris to be used and seen for many years to come by an endless number of students and spectators.

Our thanks, appreciation and gratitude to everyone supporting our efforts.  We are headed in the right direction.
