The Story

***Online Fundraiser officially started on 10/18/13***

***The "Georgia Envirothon" will appear on your receipt because Georgia will be hosting the competition***

***Envirothon is a 501c3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.***

*** Though does not deduct any fees, Paypal deducts a 1.9% fee from your donation, so this reduced donation amount may be what is reflected on your tax deductible receipt and what is recorded in our bank statements. If you prefer to send a check (where no fees are taken out), please contact [email protected] and we will be happy to provide that to you or your business.***

The North American Envirothon is a high school natural resource education competition.

High school students from all over North America form teams of 5 and compete in subject areas of wildlife, forestry, soils & land use, aquatic ecology and a "current subject" (in 2014 the current subject is sustainable farming and locally grown). Teams attend competitions at the local and state/provincial levels and one team advances on to represent their state or province at the North American Envirothon.

More specifically, students work as a team to fill out written tests (in the field) and rotate to the various testing stations during one entire day. They are given approximately 45 minutes to fill out the test and complete the "hands-on" portions where they identify skulls, pelts, trees, soil horizons etc. In addition to the testing, on a separate day, students are given a scenario/problem where they must use critical thinking skills to resolve the issue and develop a plan. They perform an oral presentation where judges critique and score their content and speaking abilities.

Students also experience various training sessions, social events and cultural opportunities during the 4-5 day competition. They also get to meet professionals associated with the various disciplines and learn about future career opportunities.

Students are able to win scholarships and prizes that are donated by a very generous sponsor: Canon U.S.A. Other interested corporate sponsors are encouraged to e-mail [email protected] for more information.

All funds raised through this website will go directly to covering costs related to food, lodging, transportation, educational materials, and other expenses (as much as $250,000 in expenses) related to the 2014 North American Envirothon which will be held in Athens, Georgia from July 20-24, 2014.

If we are unsuccessful, students/teams will be required to pay a higher entry fee to participate in the competition. It is our desire that students pay as little as possible and that they are able to attend and participate in the competition without the burden of raising funds to compete.

Please consider supporting the North American Envirothon and our efforts for the 2014 competition. It takes a tremendous amount of volunteers and money to make it a success.
