Norma W. McGarr was dedicated to education. She began her teaching career in 1961 and took time off to be home with her children. When she moved to Exeter, NH, she created her own business: Flowers and Foliage, which gave her the flexibility to be home with her children after school and to fulfill her love of growing and nurturing. She also returned to school, as a student during this time, to earn her Masters in Biology from the University of New Hampshire in 1990.
She became dual-certified to teach by the NH Department of Education in both social studies and biology and she taught at Exeter High School in both fields for 17 years. She continued her teaching after her retirement from EHS, and had some overlap, at VLACS (Virtual Learning Academy Charter School) in 2008 where she continued to teach through November 17th, 2013.
She became a Master Gardener through the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension in 2011 and she worked hard to maintain that status as it brought her much joy and happiness. She started another business: Something in Bloom, after her retirement from EHS and it allowed her to continue to grow and nurture flowers, plants, gardens, and communities.
We would like to continue to help her to 'grow and nurture' by sponsoring an on-going, yearly donation to a worthy recipient in the hope that it may allow and encourage another student (and another, and another...) to continue his or her education by attending a post-secondary school of some kind. If you would like to make a donation of any size, it would be both greatly appreciated and put to wonderfully good use. This is not a tax-deductible donation. This is a non-profit fund.
If you would like to make a donation payable by check, please send to:
1739 NW Greenbrier Way, Seattle, WA 98177
Thank you very much.
