Prodigal Love is a fresh, passionate and innovative Community Interest Company (Not-for-Profit) that seeks to positively engage young people at risk of offending and homelessness. Founder, Kristel Campbell, formed the organisation following her having worked with young people in various settings since 2001. By 2006, Kristel wanted to do something about improving the quality of the services for young people to reduce their risk of offending and homelessness.
Despite having been in roles which involved working with a plethora of organisations claiming to be able to deliver services for this risky and vulnerable group of young people, the quality of these services were wide ranging and at times inappropriate. Furthermore, with local government cutbacks it was increasingly apparent that statutory services were not able to meet the specific individual needs of complex young people; only able to address the immediate presenting issues, as opposed to the fundamental causes for frequent “crisis” points in these young people’s lives. These common crisis points and their consequences often lead to criminalisation and isolation from families.
Kristel has been instrumental to positive changes made in the lives of the young people she has worked with and is passionate about Prodigal Love supporting particularly “difficult”, risky and vulnerable young people reach their full potential, despite their mistakes and the bad decisions they may have made.
Prodigal Love CIC currently trains community volunteers in partnership with Drop the Tag with a Level 2 NCFE Mentoring Award and pairs them up with young people (from age 12 to 25yrs old) for an Intensive Personal Coaching Service. This service supports statutory provisions such as schools, pupil referral units, probation and Youth Offending Services with specific individual support.
Prodigal Love also delivers a bespoke youth intervention program called “My Evolution Theory”. This programme gives young people the opportunity to “write their own story” by engaging them in a wide range of positive challenging actives to motivate and inspire.
Prodigal LOVE Food project will be an exciting new venture for Prodigal Love - rennovating an old van and converting it into a mobile youth cade. Young people will be involved from the outset in terms of the planning, labour and experience involved in the renovation. Moreover, young people will gain work experience and life skills whilst serving their peers and the community. The profits made from Prodigal LOVE Food will go back into the provision of our Intensive Personal Coaching for young people at risk of offending and homelessness.
Kristel and 4 other “hard core” Prodigal Love supporters kick started the Prodigal LOVE Food Campaign by taking a leap into the unknown…….
