In 2012, FCHS entered the arena of Forensics. With no history of Speech, Fluvanna formed a team of over 30 students to compete in Forensic competitions throughout Virginia. Speech, aka Forensics (the art or study of formal debate) is governed by the NFL (National Forensic League). Students compete in one of several individual events including: Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation and Duo Performance.
In our first two years, we have been VHSL District Champions twice, and have sent 14 students to State competion. This is our first year having a student qualify for the National tournament with the National Forensic League.
Jonathan Corbin, a freshman at FCHS, qualified in the category of Original Oratory. His speech, entitled "The Trouble With Tech," challenges his listeners to consider the dangers of living in a technological society.
Nationals will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, June 16-21, 2013. Your generous contributions will help defray both travel and lodging costs for Jonathan and his Speech Coach, Craig Edgerton.
