Critical Needs Vanni 2014 is a fundraising campaign for 100 days to raise $100,000 to provide aid to young people affected by war in the the Vanni region of Sri Lanka.
Your donation will help provide Vocational Training and Essential Care for one year to youth and children in the three Vanni districts of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Vaddakachchi. See our full campaign website here: http://vanni.ca/
The Vanni is a region in the North-East of Sri Lanka that was severely affected by a thirty-year civil war that ended in April 2009. Since then, hundreds of thousands people have been internally displaced and in need of vital immediate and long-term international assistance.
As the scope of all needs is much too large for a single campaign, we have focused on helping children and the youth, as this is where we see the most hope for change, especially change that can be sustained over a long period of time.
Our campaign focuses on three organizations with overlapping needs in the districts of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Vaddakachchi. These districts are three of the most war-affective places within the Vanni, but also where there is much hope to drastically improve the lives of children and youth.
The three recipients of our fundraiser are the Kilinochchi English Language School, the Good Shepherd Convent and St. Joseph's Parish.
The recipients of Critical Needs Vanni 2014 are organizations run by the Catholic community in Vanni, Sri Lanka. The Vanni has a large Catholic population with a strong history of community building going back centuries; many schools, charities and NGOs naturally tend to be from this community.
The three organizations that will receive your donations foster and address the needs of all children and youth in need regardless of religion.
Kilinochchi English Language School
The mission of the English in Kilinochchi Language School is to support between 30-40 young girls and boys affected by war through housing, English language education and income generating programs.
Good Sheppard Convent
The mission of Good Sheppard Convent in Vavuniya is to support 66 young girls orphaned by war through housing, skills training and income generating programs.
St. Joseph’s Parish
The mission of St. Joseph’s Parish in Vaddakachchi is to foster a feasible living environment for close to 500 children affected by war. The Parish’s post-war initiative by Father Baskaran hopes to improve the lives of children by providing food, clothing, productive activities, education and general guidance on a daily basis
