The Story

Brittany's Baskets of Hope was founded by me, Brittany Schiavone. I am a 28-year-old individual thriving with Down syndrome and my mission is to spread love, hope, and joy to families that have newly welcomed a baby with Down Syndrome. I believe that no matter who we are or how we’re born, we deserve to be loved and celebrated and I want to inspire all individuals with Down Syndrome to know that they can do anything!

My organization is committed to providing emotional support and specific, current, factual information to families. To do this, I make and deliver welcome baskets to new Down Syndrome families that include resources for the parents as well as gifts for the baby and their siblings. To date, we have sent over 520 baskets to 48 states.

I also believe it is important for me to tell my story. In each of these baskets, I share my life and accomplishments, as well as messages from my parents and older brother about the journey of raising a child with Down Syndrome.

Please help us spread more love to these growing families by donating and joining our movement!

We can't believe it has been almost a year since we delivered our first ever basket of hope to Abel's family in Colorado! Since then, we've been honored to deliver over 500 baskets of hope to families in 46 states across the country. Each day, our Brittany's Baskets of Hope family grows with more new families and more community members who support Brittany's vision and help us spread more love, hope, and resources. Thank you for being part of our family.
Please stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram pages. As Down Syndrome Awareness Month rolls around in October, we'll be sharing stories and updates from some of our basket recipients over this past year.
With gratitude,
Brittany, Ashley, Sue, and Rocky

Hello and Happy World Down Syndrome Day eve! (We celebrate on March 21st, or 3/21, to mark the tripling of the 21st chromosome that characterizes Down syndrome.)

Since I’ve last sent you an update, business has been booming! I’ve been busy speaking at local schools (I’ll be presenting at Molloy College tomorrow night); meeting new families, including our first basket of hope recipient on Long Island, Maeve, whom I got to hold and hug and celebrate in person; and connecting with this amazing community of ours that stretches from the local to the global. Thank you all for your support, for all the blankets you’ve knitted, baby books you’ve sent, and little onesies with inspiring messages written across the front you’ve mailed us.

We’ve now delivered over 340 baskets of hope to families in 45 states across the country. We’re overwhelmed by each of the stories we get to read from our basket recipients, and touched by each family’s hope, resilience, and the joy with which they celebrate the arrival of their new little ones!

To check out all the adorable babies with Down syndrome we’ve served, please follow along on my Facebook page or Instagram. Our social media stream is full of adorable little ones, smiling with their baskets of hope.

And, tomorrow, please remember to celebrate by spreading awareness about the individuals across the world who are creating, working, serving, and living their purposes—and who just happen to have Down syndrome. I encourage you to share my website or Facebook page with your own friends and family, giving a shoutout to the joy that’s possible when we believe in every person’s ability to blossom.

With love,

Brittany & the BBOH team

Hello, everyone!
We've been busy here at Brittany's Baskets of Hope. Since my last update, I've been featured on and was named one of New 12's (the local Long Island news station's) "12 Making a Difference." My interview with News 12 will air in late December, and we'll be sure to pass along the link.

Most importantly, with all the love and generosity you've sent my way, I've been able to deliver baskets of hope to 23 new families in 16 states! Your donations have fueled these baskets, allowing me to send resources, guidance, and love to families across the country. I cannot thank you enough!

I know that the work I do wouldn't be possible without the support of each one of you. Together, we're making the world a more loving, kind place where babies of all abilities are celebrated.

To follow along on this journey, be sure to like my Facebook page or follow me on Instagram and Twitter.

Sending you all love,
Brittany & Ashley
