The Story

It’s terrifying when you hear that your child has Type 1 Diabetes.
My name is Stefanie Huff. I’m married to Craig and the mother of 4. My twins were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when they were 5 years old. Diabetes can change from moment to moment. Lots of sleepless nights, ER visits, hospital stays. It’s been a “new kind of normal for our family.” A Diabetic Alert Dog will change our lives. She will be trained to alert when there is a change in blood sugar in both boys. And then come to me. Amazing, isn’t it?
These dogs don’t just change lives. They SAVE lives.

Sometimes one of our boys has a high blood sugar level and the other other has a blood sugar drop at the same time. Checking on the boys several times a night is like having newborns in the house again. I’m not complaining. They are blessings. And I’m determined to keep my boys safe and healthy.

It’s not all about us and our family. Everyone has their own struggles. As I sit here and reflect on 2013... some of us had a good, sad, bad, ugly year. We all had our ups and downs. God never promised tomorrow. But we are all still here to talk about another day, another year. The way I see it... life is a roller coaster ride. Up. Down. Side to Side. Upside Down. And a Lesson in it all. I thank God for it. I’ve learned to not worry about the small things. Enjoy life. Live life to the fullest. It’s a gift. Have fun every day for another day.

It’s hard to ask for help. But I know that a dog will change the lives of our boys and also be an ambassador for others who need service dogs for whatever challenges they face. The organization we’ve found is Dreys Alert Dogs. a 501C3 non-profit organization. The cost of the Diabetic Alert Dog is $30,000.00. We’re hard workers, but that’s too much for our family to manage.Your gifts are tax deductible.

Thank you for giving whatever is on your heart to give. And if you can’t give, say a prayer for us. When your family needs help, call on us. Raising our children takes all of us.

I love you all.

We went to our three month doctor appt to check the a1c and measure there height and weight. Connor is right on track and a1c stayed the same as three months prior. Cameron's a1c went way up to 9.6 and he didn't grow or gain weight so they are concerned and about his growth and want to do some testing so we will be doing all of that this week before we go back to school. Please keep us in your prayers that he Is just small. We are getting close to going tote as to get our diabetic alert dogs we still need all the help we can get. Thank you all so much

It has been a while since my last post we had a family member get very sick and has passed away. I wanted to take a few min of your time to talk about our journey here goes. The boys were five years old when we found out that they had diabetes and it was a huge shock you as a parent never think that could ever happen to you or your kids that's a adult disease but it did you also never think about how dangerous it is you think when your blood sugar is to high take some insulin it's all good or if it's to low just pop some candy in your mouth your all good but until you are faced with it and you listen to the doctors tell you all the stuff that can happen and things that you have to do its scary and to top it off it's your child so as I sit to tell you that it's not that easy here why we are very out going sports and boys that love to play we have to check blood sugar 10+ times a day when they are playing blood sugar drops they get sick pass out coma death if not watched closely they never get to just play high blood sugar is the same the boys will never get to just be boys there diabetes will always play a huge part in there life for the rest of there life me as a mom worries all the time I never know when life will take a turn for us we can't just the stomach bug it's alway run to the ER due to blood sugar to high or to low to control at home they don't even get to sleep all night to blood sugar to high we have to go pee 101 times a night or to low we have to eat me I worry that I'm going to walk into there room and they are not breathing because of there blood sugar you see blood sugar can change drastically very quickly so I have found that there are dogs that can help Diabetic Alert Dogs they can help my boys in a lot of ways they can lets us know 20-40 min sooner that a meter that a change in there blood sugar they will come tell so done if the boys can't check or treat them selves this would help in so many ways these are not just dogs they could save there life and let them be growing boys

I'm not a great speller or even great with grammar this is me sharing our life I wouldn't change a thing in my life but I will ask that you please help us bring our DAD 'S home

As I sit and watch the boys practice baseball. I find myself thinking if I will be able to raise the money we need to get the boys there DAD diabetic alert dogs. When you sit and think about it seems like such a short time to raise this amount of money. I always thought that when it comes to my kids I would do anything. I sit and wonder if we will make our goal to bring Sonny and Rocky home. I think my worst fear Is that I won't be able to pull this off and I will let my boys down and that would brake my heart. So please if you can help in any way please help us we have until Oct to get our money in this will mean so much to us all. Thank you
