The Story

It is devastating, and heartbreaking, for our family to share that after six years, metastatic breast cancer has finally robbed Nicole from our family at the young age of 26. She fought that beast #stupidcancer with every bit of strength she had. She fought with grace. She fought with every fiber of her being. She laughed, she joked, she went to concerts, she worked in bars. She swam for her University of Maine swim team, she got her college degree. All while fighting that beast #stupidcancer. She worked, she played, she always smiled. She lived. #stupidcancer couldn't take, or break, her spirit. She was too strong for that beast. The number of doctors - from Johns-Hopkins in DC, to MD Anderson in Houston, to University Hospital in San Antonio - who called our family to share what an inspiration Nicole was, not only to them, but to their medical teams during her time under their care. She fought long, she fought hard, she never gave up. She went out on her terms. She went out swinging. She was able to come home, where she spent her last moments with her family and her pup, Marley. #stupidcancer may have broken her body, but it didn't break her will to live and fight. It didn't break her love of life. And, because of that, #stupidcancer won't break us. She was a force in our lives that #stupidcancer cannot take from us. We were lucky enough to be her family, her friends, or even just a passing smile at the bar, at school, at a concert, at work, or at the hospital. Remember her. Remember her smile. Remember her love. Remember her life.

We are creating this foundation to continue Nicole's bright smile, caring heart and courageous spirit. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation towards Nicole's memorial foundation and the celebration of her life.

I can't believe a year and a half has passed since Nicole left our sides. There have been so many times that I've picked up the phone to call her, to text her, to check on her. It still seems so surreal and just like yesterday. Ryan and I cannot thank each of you enough for all the thoughts, prayers and donations. Although I didn't send out thank you notes, please know that each one of you that donated to Nicole's fund, we sincerely appreciate you.

All of you had a piece in helping us create the Nicole Katherine Langlois Memorial Scholarship at her High School alma mater, Elizabeth Seton High School, in Bladensburg, Maryland. We believe that by establishing this in her memory, Nicole's life and passion will continue to inspire all who come to know her through this scholarship. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student-athlete that:
  • Is a graduating Senior
  • Is a member of the Seton Swim Team; in the event that there is not a Seton swimmer who demonstrates the scholarship criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to a member of the Seton Volleyball Team
  • Demonstrates selfless leadership as a student athlete, wherein she consistently prioritizes the needs of the team above her own.
  • Demonstrates extraordinary enthusiasm as a student athlete, whereby she motivates her teammates and encourages them to enjoy the sport and exhibit exemplary sportsmanship.
Again, without all of your donations, we would not have been able to commission the one-of-a-kind piece of art from Garcia Art Glass in San Antonio, that was created for us to present to Seton. We have also created smaller art pieces to present to the scholarship recipients as a long-standing remembrance to accompany their $1000 award to use for college.

I have struggled with how to celebrate Nicole and was hoping to have some sort of fun "Nicole" fundraiser every year, but I have not come up with something that feels right. I would love to hear ideas from everyone, but until I have the right thing, I will continue to have this YouCaring fundraising page.

I've added some photos of the piece Ryan and I presented to Seton and of the smaller piece for each student scholarship recipient, as well as photos of last year's Athletic Awards program with the first award recipient.

Please keep in touch and remember that although we miss Nicole every single day, she is with each and every one of you and will always be there watching over you.

Love to all of you,

Tracy and Ryan
