Nico and James need your help to stay together in Australia!
THE SHORT STORY
We're two gay boys in love. Nico is from New York. James is from Melbourne where we're been living for over a year.
We need to come up with $8,000 in 30 days to apply for a partner visa for Nico to stay in Australia!
You can help!!!
UPDATE: We have been offered loans from friends to cover our fees which will ensure Nico can submit his visa application on time! We are blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives. Of course, we'd rather meet our fundraising goal than go into debt, so please continue to share and donate when possible. Thank you :)
THE LONG STORY
We met by chance on the internet in 2013. Within a month, James had booked a ticket to New York to visit for a week, just to make sure we were definitely, actually falling in love. We were definitely, actually falling in love. One week became two weeks, and then James moved to the USA for three months. Nico followed him back to Australia. Since then, we have been building a family in Melbourne, Australia as dads to two cats (Arjuna & Ophelia). We're now facing separation because we can't afford an immigration visa application fee.
We need your help to stay together!
As gay marriage isn't legal in Australia, our only option is to apply for a Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801). We meet all the criteria of a genuine and verifiable relationship, we're just missing one thing – $s. On January 1st, the Department of Immigration increased the (already exorbitant) application fee for Partnership Visas by 50%, and it's now unattainable for us to reach on our own. You can help!
Nico is an artist and freelance designer. James is studying to become a holistic nutritionist who will specialise in trans health. Our only regular income is James' student allowance which is barely covering bills and food. James is in his final year of full time study which includes unpaid work experience at the college student clinic, and he's unable to fit in more work outside of this. Nico's art following and sales are growing and James will start working as soon as he graduates at the end of 2015, but we need these funds fast. Nico's visitor visa expires on September 1st! Time is running out.

James is the love of my life. I had a suspicion upon first meeting him over Skype that I would devote myself to him for a long time, and that has only been confirmed again and again as we have lived and grown together. I moved to Australia having never been here before because I was madly in love and ready for adventure. Having lived here for almost a year now, I love James and Melbourne even more. My life has improved dramatically and the sense of peace and inspiration I feel in our family home has become very precious to me. I want more than anything to stay here and support James through the rest of his education and continue my creative work in this wonderful place.
Please help! Nico is my soulmate and I am madly in love with him. This partnership gives me such happiness, health and inspiration. Nico is the most supportive, beautiful, and caring person I've ever met, and the idea of losing him for any amount of time is terrifying. The stress would be close to unbearable, and the cats & I would also lose our home as we'd likely need to break our lease if he leaves. Please help us to stay in Australia and continue building a life together!
