The Story

Nick McCarthy is a Ridgewood Dad with a loving wife and a 7 year old son. On Saturday February 11th, Nick went snowboarding in the Poconos. Being an experienced surfer, Nick was a natural on the snowboard. It was during that evening when Nick slid and crashed into an exposed snow making machine. The medics quickly came and rushed him to the nearest hospital.
Meanwhile his wife and son were at home in Ridgewood when they got the call that something was seriously wrong. Nick suffered 11 broken ribs, a liver contusion, a pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax, hemathorax and had a chest tube placed immediately. From there he was taken by medivac to Morristown Hospital where they put him into the ICU. For Kirsten and Rorik this has been agonizing. On February the 17th the hospital finally let Nick come home to Ridgewood.  He was only home a day when he was rushed back to the hospital and was readmitted with a MRSA infection around his lung. Nick was in critical condition upon his second admission to the hospital and was rushed into surgery with a thoracic surgeon to have his lung cleaned out. He is stable now and remains at the hospital. Nick's recovery will be extremely difficult. He has a special IV placed in his arm which will remain for 6 weeks. He will need home infusion for antibiotics 3x a day for 6 weeks. He will require realities therapy at home as well.

Kirsten, Nick and Rorik are some of the most genuine people I know and the first to help if anyone else has a problem.  Nick will require care while he is recovering at home and unable to work. This will be taxing on all of them but I hope this fund can help relieve some of the stress. Please share and let us help this special family.

Thank you all so much for your love and support during this difficult time. Nick and his family are extremely grateful to you all... Since my last update, Nick finally made it home last week. Unfortunately after a few days home Nick was readmitted to the hospital today after his temperature spiked. As of now we do not know the reason for his rise in temperature but the doctors are working hard and he is in the best place now where they can help him. I will continue to update as I know what is happening. Please continue to share this post, send good thoughts, and pray for Nick and his beautiful family. Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity.
