Most people dream of that all american family. You know that one — husband/wife, 2.5 kids, dog, house, and a white picket fence. That was our dream, minus maybe the white picket fence (we prefer Disney theme). In 2014, we began living our dream, getting married and starting the adventure of being a family. Since we already had our dog, Kona, we were well under way of achieving our dream. But we wanted kids. Yep, our very own brood.
In time, we realized this was going to be nearly impossible for us.
Hi. We are Nic and Jen and this is our story. In 2014 Jen was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden, MTHFR gene mutation, low protein S, Von Willebrands Disease, & anemia. Yea, we know — those were a lot of terms that you probably have never heard of. These are blood disorders that she have been seeing an Oncologist on a regular basis for. With these blood disorders, there is high risk of a miscarriage during a second trimester. In fact, if we were to get pregnant, there is a risk that Jen could die due to blood clotting — basically silent bombs.
After months of medical visits, many nights of tears, and doctors discouraging us from the idea of having a biological child we felt the calling of adoption. In our plans for our family, we had always thought that we would adopt but planned on doing so after having biological children. Sometimes God’s plans may look a little different from the ones we have for ourselves. Sometimes the journey to achieving dreams takes a different route than we might have originally thought. But we must still chase them.
So here we are, embarking on a our biggest adventure yet. The journey of adopting.
Did you know, it costs:
$1,250 to apply and begin the process of adopting
$2,500 for adoptive parenting classes
$7,000 in initial attorney fees
$3,000 for birth mom medical care
This is only the beginning of the costs associated with adopting.
Those seeking to adopt will also have to endure:
3 all-day home visits
Medical evaluations and blood work
Even pet vet records
It takes a lot of money and a lot of time to adopt. It’s a truly grueling process.
For months now, we’ve been researching and speaking with Adoption Agencies and those who have adopted before. We’ve realized that it’s going to take a lot more to adopt than just deciding to. And that’s why we need you.
It’s been said, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Adoption is a very expensive process with all kinds of costs involved. We’re asking you to join on this this adventure through love, prayer, guidance, and financial support. Your love and support will have an incredible impact not only on us. But also on the child that God has planned for our future.
This adventure, this journey, this dream we are embarking on cannot be done without your help and we are looking forward to seeing what God does through your generosity as we chase the dream of raising a family.
