Nibezun is an indigenous led, and culturally all-inclusive Healing Center that is engaged in the healing process of the next Seven Generations. Our multicultural community that constitutes Nibezun is actively engaged in ceremony, outreach, community support, and cultural preservation; and we are at a crucial time in our fundraising goals to keep these lands in the hands of its original stewards.
This property is on ancient land of the Wabanaki People. It has been used for ceremonies, burials, hunting and provides access to a historic settlement called Olamon Island. We were able to finance and close on the property on October 24th, 2016 with loans totaling $650,000 provided by The Conservation Fund and Maine Coast Heritage Trust. However, in our plan towards securing these lands, we have several small deadlines, the first and most imminent amount of $150,000 is October 24 st, 2017. We need all of your help staying open! Please Share with all those who feel strongly in their hearts the need to preserve indigenous lands, and maintain access to healing the collective wounds of the peoples of Turtle Island.
Our mission: 'To preserve, protect and promote the traditional wisdom and culture of the five tribal nations of the Wabanaki Confederacy for the benefit of all People.'
We recognize the trauma of the people in the previous Generations and we are beginning the important work of healing through our unique Seven Seeds model, which includes working with the mind, body, soul, earth, our culture, healing socially, and the original medicine, the water. Our name, Nibezun, means ‘medicine’ and is derived from the root word Nibi, meaning water, our first medicine.
Nibezun has hosted many events such as the Burnurburskek Language Immersion camp, Wabanaki Youth, WaYS program, Dartmouth Medical School Rural Pathways. Most recently we hosted the Healing Turtle Island Ceremony July 14-17, and a Yoga and Healing Retreat. People from all corners of the earth have travelled to, and been moved by the energy at Nibezun including, New Zealand, Africa, Hawai’i, Australia, South America, Korea and all over Turtle Island. Woliwoni to all participants in our ceremonies and all your prayers. We hope to see you again.
