The Story

We rescued orphan chimp Toto in 2012 after his mother Tia (of the Fongoli study group in Senegal, West Africa) died of snakebite & no other chimps found him. He had to be bottle fed for 2 years before being able to subsist on solid food. We're now preparing  to send Toto to a new home where he can live with other chimps, with the possibility of one day being released back into the wild. Given that almost all chimp sanctuaries in West Africa are at capacity, we also need to help them build new areas for Toto & his peers while they are adjusting to one another & their new sanctuary home.

We've experienced great generosity from donors in our Toto campaign! In addition to this YouCaring campaign, we have a Global Giving entry page with a Toto project (projects must be vetted by the organization and, specifically, a non-profit organization), but that organization understandably (because of the various opportunities it provides, like reviewing organizations and reports, linking organizations to corporate partners, etc.) takes a higher percentage of donations (15%) than does YouCaring, which is why we also started this fundraiser. We also have a T-shirt campaign with Bonfire: https://www.bonfirefunds.com/orphan-chimp-totos-new-home

So, we are AHEAD in our fundraising goals thanks to you!! Consequently, we've reduced the goal for this particular fundraiser!!

Wow! We are really moving fast on reaching our goal! In less than a week, we have raised 10% of the $5,000 we hope to raise over the next few months! Toto is doing well although the hot and dry season in Senegal is kicking in! We are waiting on details of paperwork and then can make our announcement regarding the exact details on Toto's new home! In the meantime, enjoy some Toto images: here he is enjoying his first taste (a couple of years ago) of a Cordyla fruit, one of the fruits that Fongoli chimps (his home group) feed on during the rainy season - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFJKq4PeNIk
