Brotherhood Softball League (BSL) and National Zakat Foundation (NZF) have partnered together to help alleviate poverty right here in the Greater Toronto Area. We encourage all members of Brotherhood Softball League and Brotherhood Indoor Soccer League to contribute their Zakat and Sadaqah to our crowd funding page to help families in the GTA.
The BSL community has pledged to raise $20,000 from their members and families. We are looking for your help to make it happen. In this blessed month, we hope that you will help us reach this goal to give back to families who need our help right here at home!
As Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz once said: “Prayer takes you halfway. Fasting gets you to the door. But charity, charity gives you an audience with the King.”
NZF is now the premier Zakat institution for Canada’s Muslim community, serving Zakat payers and recipients nationwide. By providing complete Zakat service within Canada, NZF aims to achieve its vision of a pious, confident, selfless, and self-sufficient Canadian Muslim community, where no individual in need is left abandoned.
It is the only organization providing an end-to-end Zakat service, encompassing Education, Calculation, Collection, and Distribution of Zakat funds for the benefit of local, deserving recipients. This group includes some of the most vulnerable members of the community, including the homeless, refugees, single parents, and the elderly.
National Zakat Foundation was created to address hidden poverty in the Muslim Community. The insurgence of refugees fleeing war torn countries are increasingly making Canada their home. Rising housing prices and decreasing employments rate has made providing basic physiological needs almost impossible. It is our moral responsibility as Muslims and Canadians to assist those struggling to provide for their families what we take for granted.
The Canadian Muslim community largely comprises of first or second-generation immigrants in which the stereotype carries the assumption that people living in developed countries are far better off than their countries of origin. However, according to the Quran and Sunnah Zakat should be distributed locally to bring social cohesion and promote economic growth by addressing poverty – this is the vision of National Zakat Foundation.
Accomplishments to date:
- We have distributed over $1.25 Million in Zakat across Canada. We have also assisted thousands of people in over 70 cities and established two Nisa Homes in Toronto and Vancouver; there is a third home in the works in Windsor.
- We are helping approximately 250+ people every month with Zakat and house over 20 women and children in our transitional homes.
- We are now a registered charity!
