Okay guys, we haven't told you about our newest pup Samuel yet. We had to be sure we had a clear owner surrender first. So here we go -
Samuel was rescued from the middle of a busy intersection in our area on Sunday September 3rd. While friendly and eager to get in the car to safety, Samuel was not in good physical shape. He had bite wounds covering his front legs and punctures in his mouth.
Because of the urgent nature of his wounds, Samuel's finders decided to take him to their vet to have his wounds cared for. He was cleaned up, given antibiotics, an anti inflammatory, and pain meds. He weighed in at 64 lbs and was estimated to be around a year old. Samuel was immediately posted online as found by his finders. The finders contacted us for help and by volunteering to foster him until he found a forever home, made it pretty easy for us to say yes. However, two days later, his behaviors and physical state changed significantly. He was rushed to the ER at Nashville Vet Specialist. Lethargic and dehydrated from vomiting all day, NVS immediately began fluids and testing. It was shortly after admission that we were notified Samuel had tested positive for parvovirus. As you guys know, Parvo is a highly resistant virus that can rapidly cause death to even the healthiest of dogs if left untreated. NVS provided aggressive supportive care around the clock to control the symptoms and to boost Samuel’s immune system over the course of five days. We were very worried and it was a tough road, but Samuel pulled through and is back in his foster home, where he will continue to receive the best of care. While Samuel is feeling better now, he's lost 10 lbs, and he still has a long road to recovery.
For those of you wondering, through the social media post the day he was found, we were able to locate his owner, who transferred ownership to us.
We try not to ask you very often, but in this case, it was close to $3000 to save Samuel’s life. And let us just tell you, he is worth every single penny. This boy is something special. As soon as he is ready, we'll schedule an afternoon on a patio so that he can meet all of you! As for now, you can help Samuel on his healing journey by donating today!
