Thanks so much to all the people who have donated so far, through this campaign of otherwise! A few more donations and the creation of the first series of murals will be a fact! Before January 15 (when classes start again) I’d like to finish 4 small and 1 bigger mural in the day-care centre of San Bartolomé Becerra, a small village just outside Antigua, Guatemala. The day-care centre caters to 30 children age 6 months-6 years, from the poorest people in the community. Besides classes and fun activities, the children receive breakfast, lunch and twice a day a snack. The local municipality pays the rent while the government provides the food. All other supplies and needs are covered by donations and volunteers.
The director of this day-care centre approached me when she saw me painting elsewhere in the neighbourhood. She asked if I could paint some murals in the patio and corridor. I promised I’d try to get the needed funds together….
So the plan is to paint three small murals in the corridor, one in the entrance and a bigger one (5 x 2.75m) at the patio. My idea is to typical toys from Guatemala against half abstract backgrounds in bright colours.
About $200 more in donations, and these murals will soon be a fact!
