My brother Philip and his thirty-year-long battle with cancer are my inspiration. He has had way more cancer, too many surgeries and more anointing of the sick than anyone should have. He has battled on so long and with such courage and good humor that he never ceases to inspire and uplift those around him. (You can check out this video of him: https://www.facebook.com/mnuar13/videos/10204963964326956/)
What can we do to help him? What can we do to help those who are suffering like him? What can we do to prevent others from spending as many YEARS in the hospital as he has?
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) are two organizations that are bringing real solutions to real people. I had promised myself that nothing could make me race 140.6 miles, but this is a cause that we can believe in, these are people that we can help, suffering that we can share and help alleviate. Real change is here: http://www.themmrf.org/mmrf-darzalex-approval-statement/. This is why we can truly say "race for a cure"! And CBTF is working to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors through research, support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors, giving these kids opportunities and a fresh outlook as they can connect with others like them sharing stories and opening up new horizons for them.
Lake Placid Ironman 2016. 140.6 miles. For you who suffer with cancer. For you who feel alone in your struggle, we are with you; we love you. I will fight this battle for a day to accompany you in this battle that life has given you to fight.
Who will join me? In spirit or in person, with your prayers or well wishes, with whatever change you can spare to change a life or two or a thousand...please join me. They need us.
