The Story

Every individual counts therefore every dollar counts!
In saying that I know a lot of people are struggling with their own lives. So even if you can only give $1, that is $1 that can go towards helping the Orangutans and the people of Borneo in education for families who cannot afford it.
And once you've donated, paste the link to this cause on your wall, email it to your friends. If we can get 1,500 people to donate just $1 each. We can reach the target, I believe we can do this, and that we can all do it together!

You can view all my Orangutan photos here:

Here is my story:

Whilst volunteering in a zoo as a reptile keeper on the NSW Central Coast I met a young man by the name of Ben.

I was unaware of how this young man’s entry into my life would change it for the better.

His passion and drive are second to none. He has one of the biggest hearts I have ever come across in my lifetime. In my mind, he is an inspiration, and he is someone the whole world should look up to.

Through Ben I learnt about Palm Oil plantations, the destruction to the environment, the manipulation of the people, and the death of many animals, including Orangutans due to the unnecessary greed of the companies involved.

I started small, I changed my eating habits, I have boycotted any product that uses Palm Oil and I constantly am babbling on about it on my Facebook, and to friends.

I ended up travelling to Borneo for 2 weeks, taking in the local culture, living in the jungle, and seeing the destruction first hand.

I cannot even put into words the inspiration I found whilst being there. I was moved by the determination of the people, their passion, their spirit, the light they have inside and the fight they have.

I was so moved by every single moment I had whilst I was there, so I have decided to go back.
This time on my own, but I don't want to go back empty handed.

The people there gave me more than money ever could, but I wish to give back to them regardless.

So this is why I am doing a fundraiser.

I know a lot of the villages I will visit need varying amounts of money, for a variety of projects.

I plan to distribute all funds evenly and fairly.

The money will aid in the poorer families to help clothe and educate their children.

To go towards Orangutan rehabilition.

To help with any building projects.

To help in the education section.

I am not doing this project in association with anyone.
This will be a solo mission.

It only takes one person brave enough to step forward to make a necessary change, and with that, we can all stand together in the fight against the destruction of this planet.

Hello everyone!

I am currently in Indonesia, in the city of Yogyakarta.
I have been here for 3 days and have in all honesty been taking it a little easy.

Having to acclimatise to the beat of a new city and the rather differing temperature!

The $1090 funds that were raised have already been passed onto the Orangutan Sanctuary in Tembak, and also the development of the school in the village.

I will attempt to get some photographs uploaded of Tembak and it's villagers. As there is no Internet in the village, I should be able to update you around the 9th of August once I leave the village, or upon my return to Australia.

With the added bonus of contacting all the relative winners for the prizes I had set out.
This could possibly take anywhere between September/October for me to ship out.

Thank you once again for all of your kind donations and support.

This world is a better place thanks to all of your contributions.

Kindest Regards,

Monika
