Posted on January 6, 2014It's a new year! Though our "winter" here in the Philippins looks nothing like what I am used to back home, I did enjoy celebrating the holidays in a different (but more enthusiatsic) way. Filippinos really enjoy their holidays!
Over the past 6 months that I have spent here in the Philippines, I have learned too many things to count. I have recieved a much deeper appreciation for missionaries all around the world and what their lives look like. I have learned that living in a different country is more challenging then I ever thought, but it is rewarding as well. I have learned that I just love serving the women who come to the clinic. I have learned that I just love the career field of midwifery, and I have a new-found passion for maternal care across the globe.
I have caught 10 babies since October, and each one of the birth stories is precious to me (bunny trail... my last baby I caught was named Precious!). I wish I had time to share each birth story with all of you, beucase they are so unique, and yet each is so very beautiful. The thanks the mothers give me for caring for them and their babies makes me want to cry at times. These women, many who have very little, are thankful to me, just for being a smiling face.
There are many aspects outside of the birth room that I love about the Philippines (though I do spend a majority of my time in the birth room!). I have been blessed with many, many new friends here, many of which are my classmates, and I could not have made it through the past 6 months without them!
