On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck Haiti. More than 220,000 people were killed and over 300,000 injured. The massive earthquake, the biggest the region had seen in 200 years, left more than 1.5 million people homeless, and resulted in an immense humanitarian crisis.
While the immediate response from around the world funneled much needed aid, medical attention, supplies and humanitarian relief- many families are still struggling. Some 6 years later- many families still remain "homeless" - displaced from their homes to the country side and living in a temporary tent or thrown together structure that offers little to no protection from the elements.
In November of 2016- a group of 32 people from across the country are setting out to change the life of one Haitian family in need. For as little as $6000 dollars, we will be able to build a sound structure and foundation and put a roof over a family's head. Many of these family's, sometimes as many as 6-7 people, live in tents that would barely be large enough for 1 person to live in by US standards.
Providing a family a house will not only give them the structure - but it will provide them with comfort, stability, a sense of pride and a feeling of hope. It will give them security and an opportunity to flourish as a family. Many of us have bared witness to this personally through previous trips.
We we are asking that you partner with us- that you partner with one Haitian family- and help to change their future and immensely improve their lives and the lives of their children.
Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and all funds raised through this will go directly towards the housing project
