The Story

An open letter to our family, friends, guests and supporters:

This is the second online fundraising campaign for Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar in support of our annual charity golf tournament, where we raise funds for our charity partner. Last year, we raised money to cover college costs for two children whose Dad had battled several types of cancer in the last 15 years that ultimately caused him to have a brain injury. Without your generosity we woudn't have been able to make a difference in their lives.

This year, Iron Cactus' Charity Golf Tournament is raising money for injured veterans and active duty service members to participate in a unique Mountain Top Safari and Elk Hunt hosted by The Staurolite Foundation, a small nonprofit based in Angel Fire, New Mexico, whose Executive Director and Founder, Mike Smith, hails from New Braunfels, Texas. At the moment, the individuals that work at Staurolite Foundation including Mike are all unpaid and volunteer their time and resources because they truly believe in their mission.

Every dollar donated here and at our charity golf tournament on June 1st at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin will go to The Staurolite Foundation's Mountain Top Safari, which brings together injured veterans and wounded soldiers on a multi-day Elk hunting trip. The Mountain Top Safari Elk Hunt is simply a way to give our heroes a chance to find support, friendship and help them overcome their challenges with other heroes who have experienced what they've gone through.

Since Staurolite Foundation was formed, they have hosted four Elk Hunting trips for wounded veterans and soldiers in New Mexico. On each trip, all expenses including travel, food, lodging, transportation, hunting gear, supplies, etc. are paid for by generous donors. The Elk Hunt is typically held in groups of four with one guide. According to Mike, at the end of the trip our injured heroes go back home to with a renewed spirit, long-lasting friendships and an experience of a lifetime. In order to continue and grow what the Staurolite Foundation has started just a few years ago, they require much-needed funds so none of our wounded heroes will ever have to cover any cost to be part of this unique experience. We would like to invite you to read some of the blog posts about our wounded heroes who participated in previous Elk Hunts by clicking here:

The entire Iron Cactus team is excited to be supporting The Staurolite Foundation's Mountain Top Safaris. We hope you will help us make this fundraising effort another successful one.

Thank you for your continued patronage and support!
