The Story

Emma recently turned 3 and is the absolute delight of her parents, Micke and Marta.
A few weeks ago, Emma started to not feel well, complaining of headaches, easily growing tired, and having no energy. They knew something was wrong.
Micke and Marta took her to the hospital on June 16th looking for answers. She was held for observation and testing, to see what could be causing this illness.
While in the hospital, Emma had 3 seizures. On Monday, she had a CT scan.
The results confirmed their worst nightmare. Emma has a malignant brain tumor in the center of her brain and has been deemed inoperable. The doctors have taken a biopsy and confirmed it is cancer.
They will have to wait 2-3 weeks until they get more results to decide what course of action can be taken.
As any of you can imagine, parent or not, the hardest part is feeling powerless when your child is not well.
I am helping Micke and Marta, our good friends, to raise funds to enable them to spend all their time with their sweet girl while she goes through this process. I know, as a mom, I would never want to leave her side.
Anyone who knows Micke and Marta knows that they are amazing people. Marta works in a pharmacy, mixing medicines, helping children with cancer. Micke, who is a magician and also a builder of R2-D2's takes his R2 to visit children fighting cancer.
So I ask you to donate. Anything you can do to help, even if it's sharing this campaign. It will mean so much to them to be with Emma and not have to worry about stupid things like bills and rent. It will also mean so much to Emma to have her parents with her.

I appreciate you taking the time to read and for your support.

Here is an update from Emma's dad:

So, it has finally come to this.

Today, I did something that was quite surrealistic. Something I thought would be a lot more emotional than it actually was.
I shaved my daughters head.

Not something the average dad would do to a lovely daughter with blonde hair that turns 4 in June, but then again, not the average dad has a daughter with a severe brain tumor.

Emma's radiotherapy is progressing, and our fourth week is at an end tomorrow, but she has been losing more and more hair, and had several bald spots spread out around her head, so it was time.

Her hair will grow out. The more it grows, the more we hope her tumor will shrink.

She is doing well, and is as happy as ever. She is actually looking forward to going to the hospital every morning to be pushed around in her hospital bed. It is her favorite part of the day, and she spreads joy around her among the staff and the nurses.

Emma is our little ray of sunshine, and our only hope is that she will continue to be so and beat this large, evil lump that is growing inside her head.

If you want to support us in this, as we at best can work a few hours per day, and one of us needs to be with Emma full time as things are, and the surrounding life with having to eat and pay rent and other bills unfortunately still go on, feel free to visit (and share) this link: https://www.youcaring.com/micke-askernas-590891

Thank you,
Micke, Marta and Emma

Here is an update from Micke, Emma's father:
We just had the worst possible news. Emma's tumor has mutated from a class 2 slow growing glioma to a class 4 diffuse midline glioma. From a slow growing thing in her brain to something that is now growing way too fast. Doctor's prognosis is not good. At all.

Emma is going in to surgery tomorrow to get a sort of shunt in her brain to ease the flow of brain liquids.
Radiation therapy will start on February 6th and go on for 5 weeks (every weekday), with guaranteed brain damage as result.
Let's hope the side effects will be mild.
The family is so thankful for the good thoughts, the gifts, the love, the donations, and for all the prayers.

Happy New Year! I know it's been a while since I've updated and I wish I had better news. It turns out that the chemo Emma had done was not working. Today the doctors went in and biopsied another part of the tumor to see if they can find a better medication to help. So may have been so loving and gracious with well wishes and gifts. I know Micke, Marta, and Emma are so grateful.
