On March 25, 2017, our friend Merlyn was enjoying the Hawaiian surf with his son Curtis, when he was tossed hard by a wave. His injury left him with a broken C5 vertebrae and significant damage to his spinal cord. Merlyn is currently working hard at his recovery daily in the Foothills hospital and focused on regaining the movement in his hands and lower body.
Once Merlyn joins Trish and the kids at home, his road to recovery will continue at Synaptic Spinal Cord Injury and Spinal Rehabilitation Centre in Calgary (synaptichealth.ca). Synaptic is a private clinic that delivers intensive exercise-based therapy based on the understanding that our brains can re map. In addition to his physical therapy, the family is researching Stem Cell Therapy that has seen proven successes with his injury.
Merlyn’s Road to Recovery Benefit is a night dedicated to supporting Merlyn in his goal of regaining his movement. His attitude and determination to achieve this goal is unwavering. He asks for extra therapy at the hospital daily and every time he is asked how he is doing, his answer is often “awesome”. His strength and positive demeanor has inspired us all and is the foundation for his loved ones to persevere with this goal. We are honored to be able to bring the communities of the Patrick family together for an evening of healing. This is an opportunity for his friends and family to be a part of his journey to recovery.
Please help us support Merlyn Patrick; family man, friend, coach, mentor, in his journey to recovery. The team has set a target for one year of private therapy and one round of stem cell therapy at $100,000. This goal is achievable with your generous donation. Thank you for helping us support a man who has made a life supporting all of those around him.
