My name is Trillian and I decided to start project self care after dealing with mental health struggles for the last 2 years. I have been in and out of hospitals and dealt with a lot of feeling of low self worth and depression, some days I couldn't leave my bed at all, which has been a big change from my volunteer life style that I am only now getting back. About a year ago the idea came to me to create a self care kit, (an emergency kit for my mind if you may.) that kit has helped me many times in the last year. During my last hospital stay I realized how many people don't have the kind of love and support I get from each and everyone of you, which has really inspired me to act, my idea is to start making small self care kits for other people also dealing with mental health issues, and pass them out at support groups, as well as send them to local mental health hospitals to give to clients they identify needing a little extra support on discharge.
These kits have items to help a person dealing with mental illness take care of many mental health needs, All kits come with a hand written note Journal, Pens, Tea, Dark Chocolate, and a fidget toy, other items that may be found in a self sooth kit are essential oils, fuzzy socks, a cold compress protein bars, head phones, small games, make up/bath items and mints.
The idea behind project self care, is to remind people that they are worth loving, we give them the materials to then use to help nurture themselves when they are in times of crisis.
