The Story

While he was a city guy, Peter LOVED the outdoors.  Many of his friends and family remember a bike ride, a picnic or a gathering with Peter over the years and his incredible enthusiasm for bringing them together on the lawn to enjoy the simplicity of nature.  His daughter Lael's second birthday party was held by the Central Park Carousel.  Peter and his wife Bozoma's first condo was on Central Park West where countless lunches, walks, talks, laughs and memories were made.

When Peter was nearing the end of his life, he made a wish to create a place where people could visit and remember him in a way befitting who he was.  This fundraiser was conceived as a result of his wish for a bench to be placed in his honor.  The proceeds will go to the Central Park Conservancy or the NYC Parks "adopt-a-bench" program to create this memorial bench in Central Park.  It was Peter's specific vision that people would continue enjoying a fine day in the park just as he had done so many times before.

In the spirit of his love for the outdoors and Central Park, this bench will not only serve as a memorial for our beloved Peter, but also a place for reflection and reconnection to his belief in the peace and tranquility gained by spending time in nature.  Your donation will help make one of Peter's last wishes a reality.

The goal of this fund is to establish a memorial bench through an adopt-a-bench program in either the New York City Park system or the Central Park conservancy.   Any additional funds exceeding the expenses will further honor Peter's memory by contribution to his daughter Lael Saint John via her 529 college fund.

Hello Friends of Peter,
Thanks to your support and caring, its with mixed emotions to announce   Peter's bench has been established in Central Park.  Like any good parking spot in Manhattan, we had to work and wait a little but I'm happy to report we were able to secure a great spot not far from kids playing ball, in the playground or on the carousel, quite a fitting spot to celebrate Peter as he had wished.

Bozoma wanted to get the word out that we will be gathering on Saturday, June 28th at 11am to dedicate the bench in his honor. Peter wished for all of us to celebrate him in this way, so please bring a bottle of wine, snacks, blankets (and all means of a good time) and let's toast to his life!

Peter's bench islocated at the Hecksher Ballfields (Field #4, about 50 feet behind home plate). Enter through 63rd street & Central Park West, and follow the path east under the bridge. You will see the ballfields in about 7-10mins.

For anyone coming by subway, the nearest station is 59th Street/Columbus Circle (A,B,C,D and 1 Trains)    Walk north on Central Park West to 63rd street and follow the directions above.

Spring is here!

Among the outpouring of love and support for Peter and his family this winter I am happy to share with you the news that several friends within Bozoma's Pepsi Group have independently donated $1000 to the Central Park Conservancy that will supplement our funds which will also go towards the PSJ Memorial Bench.

Looking back it seems the biggest challenge for our efforts was to actually FIND a bench that wasn't covered in snow or encased in solid blocks of ice...

With the spring thaw (hopefully) underway we expect to engage the Central Park Conservancy to secure our bench in the next few weeks which will hopefully lead to the announcement of a dedication date in the late spring/early summer.

Look for these updates from this site or from other posts on Facebook.

Regardless of your contributions to the bench, this will be a place for ALL of us to reflect, appreciate and remember Peter.

And the more we have moved forward with our efforts the more I realize this has been the right choice we have made to honor him.

Hello friends and family of Peter,

After the grieving, and the meeting and connecting with Family and friends old and new, the love and thoughts continue to come in for PSJ..!

While we believe we have attained the goal of collecting the necessary funds to establish Peter's Memorial, additional funds continue to come in.   In addition we have had further inquiries if it was still ok to contribute to the fund even though the goal seems to be met.

We wanted to ensure that all funds exceeding the bench costs are fully appropriated to the honor and memory of Peter Saint John and is apparent to all donators.     To that end I have added additional information to the Fund’s scope that all funds exceeding the amount needed for Peter’s Memorial will be placed in his daughter Lael’s 529 college fund.
Anyone still wishing to contribute this way to Peter’s memory will know that their funds will go to help make a brighter future for one the greatest loves of Peter’s life.   We’ll update the funds transactions through this site as we progress with the memorial.

Until then,

A Merry Christmas, happy holidays and terrific New Years to all..

Will
