The Story

Our hearts are greatly saddened at the loss of Kayson Shelton. The last words he spoke in this life were "I love you". Such a beautiful and loving child, and while we are greatly comforted in the knowledge that families are forever, we will dearly miss his smiling face until then.  Through the power of Christ's atonement, he will live again. Our family is the most important thing to us in this life and through the blessings of the temple we are assured that our family can endure through eternity. As the Family Proclamationstates, "The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally."  Find out more about what we believe about the family here.

Thank you again for donating to the Sheltons on behalf of their son Kayson. They have expressed to me so much gratitude for what you all were able to do for them. Your donations made a huge difference in their llife during a difficult time. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

Tomorrow would have been Kayson's third birthday. His family has asked that to celebrate his life people do an act of service in his honor. If you would like to participate post what you did (or that you did something) with the hashtag #HappyBirthdayKayson and I will be compiling any posts to present to the Sheltons sometime next week. You can see more information about this on my blog - http://www.techiechic.net/blog/happybirthdaykayson/

Again, thank you for your donations. You have truly inspired me to be a better person. I know that many of you don't even know the Sheltons personally which is all the more inspiring to me to see people reaching out to total strangers in a time of need. Toni (Kayson's mother) has expressed to me multiple times that her only hope through this ordeal is that their experience could help bring people to Christ. If no other good has come from this difficult time, I know that I have desired to be more Christlike from seeing the love of others poured out on this family at this time. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

We did it!  In less than 4 days we have exceeded our fundraising goal of $20,000!  You are all so awesome and I know this will mean so much to the Shelton family to have this assistance at this time.  While it won't do anything to bring back what they have lost this will surely help ease this burden for them.

I've had a few people ask me why the goal amount for the fundraiser was raised a couple times so I thought I'd share the explanation.  On Friday night when our neighborhood found out about the tragedy we all gathered in the Sheltons' driveway and started brainstorming what we could do to help serve them. One idea was obviously to have a fundraiser.  We sat there trying to decide what we wanted our goal to be, especially as none of us really knew what the total expenses for the family might be.  We threw around a few different numbers - $10,000?  $15,000?  $20,000?  What was realistic?  What would be needed?  Could we raise enough to give them the time they would need to process their grief?  We decided that we would start with a more modest goal and then if we reached it that we could just set a higher goal.  We couldn't have dreamed at the time that our little fundraiser would have national, let alone international coverage!  So, while that might have seemed a bit strange in a fundraiser with so much press, it was our intention all along to do whatever we could and raise the goal along the way.  But I won't be raising the official goal again, we'll just be excited to give them whatever comes in during the days that follow.

Again, a HUGE thanks to all of you out there who have taken part in this great effort.  May the Lord bless you for your kindness and generosity to a family in need.  You can rest assured that you certainly "havedone any good in the world today".  I hope you enjoy the video :)

I've been so touched and amazed watching the donations pour in for Kayson's family.  With all the bad things that happen in the world it gives you a lot of faith in humanity to see so many people rally around a good family during a hard time like this.  We've had over 300 people donate to the Shelton family so far and that kind of response is just incredible.  From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness to this good family.

You may have noticed that as of this morning we have far surpassed our original fundraising goal.  There is a single donation for over $250k that YouCaring is investigating as being likely fraudulent.  We will update again when we can confirm or refute that with certainty.

Wow, we never imagined the outpouring of love from so many different people. We had hoped to raise some money just to alleviate just a little bit of the financial burden from this great tragedy.  We're excited to be able to make a real difference and enable the Sheltons to really find a way to help Kayson's legacy live on.  It's been incredible today to see the support from friends, family and total strangers.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  The Sheltons are such a wonderful family and it's so touching to see the community give back to them in such a big way during such a difficult time.

Kayson's story has been picked up by a number of news outlets both in Salt Lake City and in San Francisco, you can read some of the stories here -
