The Story

On July 1, 2013, at only 25, Austin Smith lost his life on the river he loved. After several unsuccessful attempts to find him, people were left with uncertainty and restlessness. Austin was finally found on September 6. While this brings his loved ones some of the closure they were looking for, they're now facing a need for support to give him a proper burial.

As the old adage goes, It takes a village. Countless people loved, impacted, and cared for Austin throughout his life. Some who literally helped raise him, some who stood by his side, melding into the memories that made up his life. Some who instilled in him and reinforced the passions he grew to possess. Some who encouraged him and propelled him forward during his pivitol life moments. Some who were open ears, open hearts, and his rock. Some who fostered his goofiness, his thirst for life, and his abiity to make any situation humorous and fun. Some who opened doors for him, some who taught him, and some who mentored him. Many of us have the privilege of saying that Austin was also one or more of these things to us as well. Whoever you were to Austin, whenever he came into your life, however long you knew him, you were a part of him, as he is a part of you.

It makes the healing process a litte less grueling knowing we are not alone. There are so many people who love Austin as we do. During times of adversity and tragedy it is both a blessing and a relief to experience the coming together of people and to feel such a strong presence of love. The support you are all giving means more than we could ever express.

May the visable support on this site provide some comfort to all who lost Austin. Feel free to share any thoughts you want to send Austin or his family-- from quotes to kind words to your favorite memories.

Most importantly, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
