Meg & Peter just lost everything they own, but the clothes on their backs in a CA wildfire. Had Meg not awoken when the power went out last night, they may not be here today.
Meg is the daughter of one of my best friends, Jane Desillier. Ironically, 20 years ago, on Nov 11, 1997, my husband and I lost everything we owned in a house fire. Jane and her family were the first people there, even before family, to assist us. They took us in their home until we were able to find place to rent, while our house was being rebuilt. Having 2 children and losing everything two weeks before Thanksgiving, was devastating. I honestly don't know what Bill and I would have done, had it not been for the friendship of Jane and Pete, and their kids, who were friends of both of our kids.
Meg & Pete just became engaged a couple months ago. They were in the process of planning a wedding, and we all know how stressful that is, in addition to Meg's student loan debt from obtaining her Master's this past year.
The Desillier family came into our lives because someone above sent them. They are the most generous and giving people I know. But, having experienced a house fire ourselves, I can tell you that no amount of insurance will cover everything that you lose,
ANY AMOUNT IS HELPFUL. People think they need to donate $$$, but that's simple not true. Even if you can spare $5 - that will help, TRUST ME - I KNOW!!! If it had not been for the generous people at my work and neighborhood, I don't know how we would have had the strength to move forward.
I know that I will appreciate your donation, but the Desillier and Doran family will remember this for a lifetime.
