Please help us open doors for Bruce in his recovery and in the next chapter of his life. We are confident that with your help, he’ll continue to amaze and entertain us in the days and years to come!

For those of you who don't know Bruce Cook, he is a twenty-six year old Kelowna, BC resident who is a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend to many.  He is best known to the public as a Freestyle Motocross Athlete who suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury on January 3, 2014 during a record breaking trick, which left him with no function or sensation from the waist down.  Bruce has an exceptional attitude and is a vibrant, giving member of our community whose motto has always been 'inspire, motivate, excel'; since his injury, he has continued to live by that motto and has maintained his sunny disposition, positivity, drive, and wonderful sense of humour.

Bruce coined the hashtag phrase '#smileforBC' on social media immediately after his injury to inspire his many supporters to live positively and give them a way to support and encourage him in turn by sending smiles of support on social media.  Inherent in Bruce’s outstanding attitude is the tendency to reveal and focus on only the positive in his situation.  While this is an excellent attribute, the reality is that he is experiencing a situation that is unfathomable to many of us. Intense physical pain, rigorous physiotherapy, adverse reactions to medications, and adjusting to his new physical situation are all major parts of his current reality.  In order to help Bruce on his road to recovery and enable him to focus only on that which helps him most, we are launching a fundraising effort so that he need not worry about financial strains associated with medical expenses, living adaptations, mobility needs, treatments, programs, etc. Unfortunately, due to the nature of his sport, Bruce was not covered by disability insurance and is not likely to receive any financial or medical assistance outside of what is provided by BC Medical in the hospital setting.

Please donate now!  Your support is deeply appreciated!

Hello!  First, thank you SO much for all of your generous donations!  We wanted to post a quick update in case some of you haven't been following Bruce on Social Media.  For those who have inquired, Bruce's official medical diagnosis is 'Asia A T-11 Complete Paraplegia'.  He received basic rehabilitation at GF Strong in late February and March which was focused on self-care and life skills.  Being such an active person prior to his injury, after discharge from GF Strong, Bruce needed to focus on staying active in a way that would be most beneficial, so he headed to California to attend Project Walk (a private facility specialized in spinal cord injury).  Bruce's experience at Project Walk has been so incredibly positive that he has extended his stay, and at a cost of almost $500 per day, your donations have made a very direct positive impact in his life already.  With lifetime costs of spinal cord injury estimated from $400,000 - $2,000,000, the support of his community during this time of transition has meant the world to Bruce.  Not having to worry about finances in this initial post-injury transition stage has been such a gift. Bruce is extremely moved by the generosity of all of you and has asked us to pass along his deep gratitude.  Please feel free to check out for more info, events, merch, etc.  Thanks again!
