The Story

Steve Carr had a paragliding accident on May 17, 2014 in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. He fractured his entire lumbar and the worst being an exploded L-1 vertebrae, and severly damaged his nerves. Steve endured a 12 hour surgery that fused his lumbar and left him with several metal rods and pins holding his back together.
His friends and family are trying to help send him to professional physical therapy to help get him walking again. He did not have health insurance at the time of his accident and is facing medical bills into the hundreds of thousands. However, we are only trying to raise money for his immediate needs like physical therapy from professionals in a rehabilitation program, and also he needs help paying for his immediate medical supplies for his bladder and pain management.
Steve is very capable of managing his debt wth the hospital, surgeons, and anasthesiologists once he is back on his feet again. His Wife Amy is currently unemployed, and they are raising there 5 year old daughter Aly.
This site is secure using Pay Pal or credit Card to donate. Please help "Get Steve Walking Again".

I want to thank all the supporters for the Steve Carr Fund. We reached goal of 18,000 dollars one day before goal date.
It has been over a year and Steve is stronger than ever, being able to walk with support from hiking poles for balance, and even without poles when needed.
He recently tried paragliding again and had two nice flights from Hatcher Pass. Back In The Saddle Again. Video is on home page.

10 weeks post OP and great news!

I can now urinate naturally. Hurray! On Friday July 25th, I was scheduled for surgery to install a permanent catheter through my stomach and into the bladder. I insisted on testing the plumbing just before the procedure. So after we pulled out the indwelling catheter, VOILA! It worked! (see recent photo of me holding cup of pee) This is a major milstone toward recovery. No more pain and infections from that ball and chain.
Thank you all and due to your continuing support, progress is happening.

Video producer Chris Reynolds just posted this recent video showcasing my new orthotics and walking progress. Find it at the bottom of the Photos & Videos gallery.

8 weeks, 4days post op and making good progress.

Thanks to all of you I am on my way to physical therapy. I just posted two photos of me on my latest walker building leg muscle in the yard. Recently, I weighed in at 133 lbs, down 17 lbs from my normal 150. This is all muscle loss and I intend on gaining it all back!

A big thanks to all my German friends who have kindly donated this past week in what seemed like a mass rally. It was like a tidal wave of generosity coming across the ocean and now we are over the hump toward our goal!

I also noticed donations from Friends rights here in America, some kiters, some pilots and just good kind folks who continue to throw in some bold contributions, holy smokes - I am overwhelmed!!!

Steve
