Live lit and warm soup come together for one night only on December 11, when That's All She Wrote and Soup & Bread team up to lend their support to someone who has been a stalwart supporter of both. Swim Cafe owner Karen Gerod has been a key part of Soup & Bread since we started up six years ago, never hesitating to lend a pot of soup or a plate of cookies to the cause. And for the last year her Chicago Avenue cafe has been home to the monthly Sunday night lit series That's All She Wrote, hosted by Angela Benander and JH Palmer. What's less known is that Karen has been battling cancer for the last year.
To say thank you, and give back a bit of the care she has given us, we present Soup & Bread & That’s All She Wrote -- an evening of soup, bread and live lit at the Hideout on December 11, 5:30-8 pm.
We'll have soups from an array of local cooks including Milk & Honey, Hoosier Mama’s Allison Scott, and artist and “Mortified! Chicago” host Shay DeGrandis, followed by readings on the theme of health care and caretaking from Benander, Palmer, Martha Bayne, Sheri Reda, Tom Wolferman, and Dmitry Samarov. Music provided by DJ Lawrence Peters. Suggested donation $10; all proceeds will be donated to Karen.
