You can't make this stuff up.
Earlier today, the home care nurse was worried that Jenna has contracted MRSA (staph infection) on her leg where the wound hasn't healed. They had to go to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to have it cultured. The results won't be known for 24-48 hours. If positive, she will have to be admitted.
IT GETS WORSE!
On the way to Lawrence, US59 Highway has not been completely cleared of snow and ice. Three cars in front of her started to lose control. Her van also lost control and went into the ditch. It is still drivable and everyone is okay, but the back bumper is torn up. The airbag light is on, but the bag did not deploy.
A couple updates:
1) Contributions from Ottawa High (students, staff, bake sale) totaled around $1,000- what a great center of support!
2) The KCTV five story detailing the community's support as well as Jenna's story will air Monday, 12/23 on the early morning edition and will also be online.
We are pleased to share that Jenna will be featured in a KCTV5 news story which should air today (12/20; evening/afternoon) on the Kansas City CBS affiliate.
The interview consists of Jenna, her daughters, and the Ottawa High community (and Ottawa, Kansas' community support) sharing what 'Mrs. M' means to our 'family'. The efforts of faculty, staff, and school organizations (FCCLA, Cheer) will be featured in the story.
Things are going great so far! Money is still being collected around town, although things have been a little slow on the site the last few days.
KCTV 5 out of Kansas City will be featuring a story on the support from OHS students and staff. They have all been amazing!
Received a $25.00 check from a family friend in Wichita. Will be depositing that and adding it to the fundraiser.
Keep it up!
Jenna had a little bit of a scare last night. The leg where the surgery wound is started to swell to the point of pain. After a trip to Lawrence Memorial Hospital ER, the doctors decided it was not a blood clot, but rather, fluid retention.
No doubt, this will add to their mountain of medical bills, but it could have been a lot worse.
A BIG thank you to everyone who has donated so far.
In addition to the YouCaring page, we have also collected $288 cash and checks (haven't counted up the change yet) locally. That brings the total, thus far, over the $600 mark!
Please spread the word. Let's try to break the goal and send this through the roof!
On Friday December 20th, a bake sale will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 in the
Ottawa High School Cyclone Room
1120 S. Ash
Ottawa, Kansas 66067
All proceeds will go to benefit Jenna and her family.
