The Story

Some of you may know that we were once a dual income family raising 2 children full time, 1 every other weekend and were expecting 1.  Life changed drastically for us on August 28th 2012.  Trenton experienced a devastating injury at the hands of his "care taker".  Through the process of the courts we were able to gain custody of him.  Trenton's placement with us was one we wanted and one we embraced, however it ment that I had to quit my full time job to care for him.  We went from two full time incomes down to one, and added 2 full time children into our care.  Our bills are managable, but just barely.  We have created this page so those who wish to help us can.  We have closed our gofundme account, because this one is completely free and the other site took a percentage of each donation made.  We know Trenton and our family has an amazing support group that we couldn't be more thankful for.  I had to put a goal amount on this fundraiser page though, I set it high but just know we greatly appreciate any and all help that we will receive.  This site catagorized Trenton's fundraiser as "medical expenses" because the need for the fundraiser was  caused by a medical injury.
Trenton was a happy soon to be 1 year old boy who was unknowingly to us being abused at his biological mother's house.  ...We found out later that his biological mom knew that the abuse was taking place, yet she turned a blind eye to it.  The day before Trenton's first birthday his biological mother left him in the care of her fiance and went to work.  While she was at work, Andrew Basinski allegedly smothered Trenton in an attempt to make him fall asleep to nap.  He allegedly had him wrapped so tightly in a blanket and against his chest that he did not realize that Trenton had stopped crying because he had stopped breathing.  When Andrew realized that Trenton was unresponsive he called 911.  The lack of oxygen to Trenton's brain caused him to start having seizures and he remained unconscious.  He was flown from the Cadillac Mercy Hospital to the Helen Devos Children's Hospital where he spent his first birthday unconscious.  After ruling out any medical explanation they turned to CPS for a joint investigation in hopes to uncover the truth.  Allegedly, Andrew Basinski soon admitted to police officers that he had caused Trenton's injuries.  He allegedly also admitted that he had attempted to get Trenton to nap in this same manner an estimated 10 times during the past year.  Anna, his biological mother, allegedly admitted to CPS workers that she had personally witnessed Andrew attempt this "napping method" with Trenton twice.  Both times she said that Trenton would gasp for air and she would take Trenton from Andrew.  Despite noticing these factors Anna still left Trenton in his care.  CPS has taken all of Anna's children because of this and her parental rights are up for permanent termination in February.  As a result of Andrew's actions Trenton has over 75% permanent brain damage.  He is no longer to eat on his own and now relies on a G-Tube for Feeding.  He is unable to process thought, sight, sounds, and touch correctly.  He has limited intentional movement ability and will never walk, talk, sit up, crawl, or play again.  His life was stripped from him.  Now that his biological father has custody of him he is showing slight signs of improvements.  He, on occasion, responds to us by cooing and smiling.  He has become much more content and has settled into our home nicely.  He still needs one on one attention during all awake hours.  He has a therapist and nurse come to the home once a week to make sure he is doing fine.  We don' know what the future will hold for Trenton, but with the right resources, an abundance of love and dedication, we are praying for the best possible outcome for him. We greatly appreciate all of your love, support and dedication to Trenton and our family as he continues to prove exactly how tough he really is.

Trenton has been doing great.  He passed his swallow study, was approved for vision therapy, and continues to progress in his physical therapy.  We are so grateful for all the love and support of his followers.  Trenton truly is a miracle.  He fights so hard, everyday, to accomplish some of the simpliest things.  At times, you can just see his mind working as he tries to do something.  When he notices something with his eyes, his face lights up and squeals.  He recongnizes familiar voices and gets excited when he hears them.  He is far from the vegetative state we were warned about when discharged from the hospital in Septemeber.  He is a warrior, and has come so far and will continue to make improvements because we aren't giving up!
