As a result of a tragic car accident. Ruby Baron, 14, is paralyzed from the waist down. Please help us support Ruby and her family as they move forward from this devastating accident with grace.
On November 27th, 2013, the day before Thanksgiving, Ruby was involved in a tragic car accident in Hillsdale, NY. She was traveling to a holiday celebration with her father Ron, his wife Irit and their 5-year-old daughter Naomi. The two sisters were traveling in the back seat, which bore the brunt of the crash. Ruby suffered severe internal injuries in addition to major spinal cord trauma. Due to her injuries, she is paralyzed from the waist down. Her sister Naomi did not survive the accident.
Ruby's mother Rose has taken an indefinite leave of absence from teaching at Pratt to be at Ruby's side as they navigate the rehabilitation process and the many challenges ahead. Ruby has recently been transferred from the Albany Medical Center to RUSK, a rehabilitation facility in NYC where she will have to stay for at least 2-3 months. In the meantime, Rose and Matt will be making arrangements for wheelchair-accessible housing and transportation so that everything will be ready for Ruby when she is released from the rehab facility.
Our favorite pink-haired, ukelele-playing, sporty, multi-talented performer needs our help! We know that all of her relatives, friends, classmates at LaGuardia High School (where Ruby started 9th grade in September), and former classmates at NEST+m (where she attended K-8 grades), can't wait to see her and support her recovery, but the family really needs financial help as well. Since Rose has taken a leave of absence from her job, they have become a one-income family as they face enormous out-of-pocket expenses and certain medical expenses that aren't covered by insurance. So let's RALLY FOR RUBY and raise $80,000 to ease the financial stress. We can't do it without you!!!
