Most babies born with Trisomy 13 only have a 5% chance of making it to delivery. Out of those, only 5% live longer than one hour. Beloved little Hadley Mae McCormick was born on August 11, 2013 with Trisomy 13, and while doctors prepared her family to expect only minutes to an hour with her after birth, she has miraculously persevered in life day after day.
Because of her condition, Hadley was born with a cleft pallet, but still has been able to receive some bottle feedings, though most of the time she is fed through a feeding tube. She also suffers another condition common to trisomy 13 babies: apnea. Simply put, her brain frequently forgets to tell her body to breathe; these espisodes occurr multiple time daily and can last from 30 seconds to 5 or more minutes, and any one of them could very well be her last.
Hadley's parents Lance & Audra care for their precious girl 24/7, holding her, feeding her every 2 hours day and night, and even administering CPR when her apnea episodes last too long. Even though she is always connected to monitors, someone stays awake with her all night to make sure that she is breathing and that she is never alone. Her family loves her deeply, and they are so grateful to have her in their lives each day; but her care is exhausting and expensive.
Hadley was born into a wonderful family: two adoring parents and ten (yes, I said TEN!) siblings ranging in age from two to sixteen. They are a Christian family who honors the Lord and His sovereign plan for Hadley's life. The McCormick family continues to put their hope & trust in the One who created Hadley and is worthy of all honor, glory, and praise.
Shortly after Hadley was born, a Facebook page was created for her where those who care about her and her family can follow her daily progress and growth as they pray for her and her family and encourage them through comments and posts. But Hadley and her family need more; they need help financially too. While Hadley's medical bills are covered by health insurance, there are many other costs that insurance does not cover; for example, her special formulas and feeding tubes and the increased electric bills from the 24/7 montitors she requires. In addition, Lance, who is in business for himself, does not receive any paid time off, so when he does not work, he does not get paid, making it that much harder to cover their increased expenses since Hadley's birth. To make matters worse, Lance was recently diagnosed with a severe case of double pneumonia, resulting in multiple hospital stays and weeks of mandatory bedrest at home; not only is that time for which he will not get paid, but they will now have very expensive doctor and hospital bills because they do not have health insurance for Lance.
Christmas is a time of celebrating a very special miracle: the birth of a very special baby many centuries ago who came to this earth to bring us all life. This year, we are celebrating another miraculous birth, and though Hadley is not the Savior of the world, we do know that God is using her life and her story and the faith of her family to touch hearts and lives around the country and the world and to transform them eternally because of her family's faith in that Savior, Jesus Christ!
As of the date this fundraiser was created, Haldey's Facebook page has received 3,499 individual likes, and there are 1,923 active conversations about Hadley happening right now on Facebook (according to Facebook's algorithms). What if every one of us who have liked her page donated $10 to Hadley's family to thank them for sharing her with us, to thank the Lord for blessing us through her, and to help them care for and celebrate her every day that the Lord continues to bless her with life? Ten dollars is not a lot, but all of our ten dollars put together can make a world of difference in this family's life this Christmas.
Please join us at Peine Ridge Church, the McCormick's home church, in blessing this family and in celebrating the God of miracles, and specifically this one little miracle, Hadley Mae. Join us this Christmas in starting a Miracle Movement!
If you would like to join us in the Miracle Movement, you can make your donation by clicking the "Give Now" button at the top of the page.
