The Story

This is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do, but my family needs your help. Two years ago Eric injured his hip wildland firefighting, at that time doctors found a cyst in his hip bone, they told us it was harmless, he was probably born with it. Workman’s Comp had him do some physical therapy and released him. Since then he has had constant pain and loss of mobility in his hip which just kept getting worse until he finally went to another doctor. What we were told was the harmless cyst was an aggressive giant cell tumor and many aneurismal bone cysts that had destroyed almost all of his hip bone. Our doctor sent him to an oncologist at OHSU where he had surgery on Jan. 8th. They removed most of his hip, replacing it with a steel plate and did bone grafts. His recovery is going to be long and difficult, with numerous trips to Portland. I work 3 days a week but cannot add to that at this time due to all of the traveling and appointments he has. We are also looking into everything possible for help, workman’s comp, disability, even state assistance, so far we are being told that we fall through the cracks. So I must ask for help from our friends and family, anything at all will be appreciated and will be used to travel back and forth to the oncologist appointments and living expenses. We thank you, Eric, Kari, and girls

I would like to thank everyone who has helped us, it means so much to Eric and I to have the support we do from our family and friends. We have set this money aside and it will be used to help fund our many trips to Portland, thank you all so much!

I would also like to update on Erics condition, sense I last posted we received biopsy result and have received a different diagnosis he has what's called chondroblastoma with anuresmal bone cysts. This condition together has higher chances of reoccurrence and risks of spreading to the lungs so he has to be monitored alot closer.

Eric is now walking around short distances fairly well he has retired the walker and is using arm crutches which allow him more freedom! He is doing physical therapy which is helping him learn to walk properly again and gain strength in his leg again!

Once again thank you all so much
