The Story

Father, husband, son, nephew, friend - these all describe Marcus. Now, he is adding warrior and cancer-viver to that list as he battles against a rare and aggressive form of cancer called mucosal melanoma.

Diagnosed in 2013, Marcus went through successful nasal surgery and radiation. But the cancer is relentless and was found again in March 2014 in his lymph nodes in his neck. Watch this music video to learn about his journey so far.

Not one to sit back, Marcus sought treatment at UCLA, since the Hawaii doctors did not have a lot of experience with this rare cancer. After consulting with the UCLA doctors, he was initially accepted into a clinical trial that they said is the best option for him. Then a week later, he learned that he no longer qualified and would not be able to participate.

The ordeal of seeking treatments, making plans for a trial and then getting them stripped away has been an emotional rollercoaster for Marcus and his family, including three school-age sons and a loving wife. The Reimel's are grateful for the support shown thus far and still appreciate any assistance for Marcus' ongoing care, along with your thoughts and prayers for strength, courage and health!

Mahalo for all your support

We are so thankful for the generosity of all our friends and family pitching in to our fight! We are blown away with the amount we raised both here on this website and the birthday bash event we had on June 22nd.

I just wanted to say Thank you again for all your support, this journey is no where near the end. Please keep up to date on my blog to find out the latest.

Currently we are wrapping up our treatment with Yervoy, and have the last treatment on August 7th. We will measure the tumors again after that and determine the results.

We would like to thank everyone who's purchased tickets to Marcus' fundraiser birthday bash next Sunday. Advanced ticket sales are now closed but we will accept walk-ins at $40/adult and $20/child age 6-13. We have great food, entertainment and silent auction planned, thanks to an amazing group of friends and family volunteers!

For an update on how Marcus is doing with his new Yervoy treatment, check out his blog at

Thanks, Noreen

Thank you everyone for your generous donation and support! We've been very overwhelmed with the outreach for Marcus. He starts his new treatment later this week, so fingers crossed!

If you're able to attend his fundraiser event on Sunday 6/22 and haven't purchased tickets yet, please visit June 11 so we can get an accurate headcount!

And if you are attending, we have some great silent auction items for you to bid on! It'll be a great event!

This is Marcus! And I wanted to tell all of you we are so grateful for your generosity. We are amazed at how you continue to give and our fund grows!

We will be starting Yervoy immunotherapy June 5th, and hope to see a response in stopping or shrinking the tumors! I say "We" because I know II could not do this alone, and your support helps our spirits!

Aloha again for all your help!!

I just wanted to inform anyone that I, Marcus, have logged in and am writing these updates. Please note Noreen's name is listed, but I have been updating these myself!

Noreen is a much better writer than myself, haha, so please criticize me for any errors in these updates. She set up the account, and I have been using her login.

Thank You

You are all giving me such courage and strength for this battle through your messages and support. May 7th I meet with my oncologist's nurse to discuss this new treatment. We hope he will have information for us to head down a treatment path with Yervoy, a medicine for my mestastatic melanoma.

Please check my blog for more updates at:

Aloha and Mahalo to all of you for helping us on this journey!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for starting to share this, and especially to those who have begun donating. We cannot imagine how much this will cost over the next year of travel. This trial pays for my scans, tests, and exams related to it, and also the medicines that I will be on. Travel and lodging seems to fall upon us, so thank you for your assistance!!

Please follow my blog to learn about my daily  updates.
