Laura is the proud wife of Air Force SMSgt Michael Venning. She is blessed to be the mommy of three wonderful children: Jacob (2004), Eli (2006) and Rachael (2008). Laura is an amazing stay-at-home mother and is homeschooling all three children. The Vennings are currently stationed in Alaska, far from their familes in Australia and Florida.
On July 9th, Laura found a lump in her left breast. After several exams, a mammogram, ultrasound, and a biopsy, she received the biopsy results and was diagnosed with invasive mammary carcinoma (breast cancer).
The tumor was determined to be agreesive and Laura began chemotherapy on September 23 2014 to prevent furher growth. Due to complications from chemotherapy, treatment had to be halted and the doctors turned to surgery to ensure tumor would not spread or metastasize. Laura had a single mastectomy on October 21 2014. The next part of the treatment plan will be finalized in January 2015.
Laura faces other health issues, to include ulcerative colitis which can flare from stress, and a clotting disorder. These issues have already impacted chemotherapy and have to be considered for future treatment.
Unfortunately, Tricare has already confirmed they will not cover several medical expenses in Laura's fight against Breast Cancer. Those of us who understand the red tape of Tricare will understand the additional turmoil Laura and Michael will face in an already stressful and difficult situation.
We have faith that Laura will kick this! Modern treatment has afforded patients a 90%+ long term survival rate and Laura fully intends to be in that percentage!
Those of us who know Laura and her family understand her love and compassion for those around her. Let's show her some in return! Love on Laura! Your contributions will be used to cover medical expenses, travel expenses for family while Laura undergoes treatment, and other expenses for the family to keep life as stable as possible during this time. If you choose to donate, your contribution can be public, slightly public, or completely anonymous.
