The Story

NOTE: This site,, and payment partner Paypal have recently changed some of their membership requirements. If the process of donating online starts to annoy you, you can send a check to Joshua Berger Donation Fund, c/o PO Box 2863, Portland, OR, 97214, USA.

Josh continues to recover from his Traumatic Brain Injury, or TBI, of May 18. His recovery is going well for this type of injury. He is now working 10 hours a week, bicycling, and in his words, sleeping 12 hours a day (essential to recovery). The agency he works for, Liquid, has been incredibly supportive of the Berger-Brown family, which is fortunate enough to have Cobra health insurance and Josh is now on disability.

Despite this help and the generous support of friends and colleagues around the world, the family is still struggling to absorb an income reduction of 40% that will likely continue for many months. This YouCaring campaign continues raising funds for Josh, Tiffany, Amelia, and Gusty. PICA also plans to put on a benefit show, too, which is very kind. See for details of this February 24 event.

We will be assessing the family's expenses and working out more specific numbers in the upcoming weeks, and will share them here. Thank you again for everything.

Jeremy's original note:

Dear family, friends, colleagues, etc. of Joshua and Tiffany,

We have set up this site to receive monetary donations aimed at providing financial support for Josh and his family during his recovery period. It is still very difficult to fully ascertain all of the expenses that will result from Josh's accident. What we do know is that the costs will be many and significant. While Josh is fairly well covered with both medical and disability insurance there are many expenses that are either only partially covered by, or not covered at all by these forms of insurance

Use your credit card on or write a check to: Joshua Berger Donation Fund and send c/o Plazm, PO Box 2863, Portland, OR 97208. Please let us know whether it's OK to list your name as a donor or if you prefer your name remain private.

By donating here you will be contributing to Josh's family's ability to meet the following expenses:

- medical expenses
- caregiving
- nutritional plan & food
- "alternative" recovery therapies (acupuncture, cranial sacral therapy, etc.)
- childcare & at-home assistance
- monthly expenses
- many other, as yet unidentified, expenses

We have set an initial target of $60,000 to carry the Berger-Brown household for the next 6 months. While this figure can seem a little shocking at first glance, if you take a moment to think about the basic expenses of your life and then factor the insanity of our current medical system it suddenly does not seem very large at all.

So… it's time to rally. All financial contributions are welcome and deeply appreciated. Josh has a huge community of people he has known and collaborated with over the years. Please feel free to forward this link to anyone and everyone you can think of who's life has been touched by Josh, Tiffany, Plazm, etc. And the math is pretty simple if 500 people contributed an average donation of $120 we will have met our initial goal. THANK YOU everyone for your contributions, large and small. Your love and support mean a great deal to Josh and his family.

If you are unable to make a financial contribution at this time please consider visiting the 'help out' section of the website where you can volunteer time to assist the family with various household, childcare and transportation needs.

In the meantime I intend to start investigating the possibility of matching grants from larger organizations that Josh has worked with.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

With lots of love,

Jeremy & Team Berger-Brown
