We are heartbroken to share that Kelsey passed away on Saturday evening, April 18. She came home from Banner UMC on Thursday and spent her remaining time in her home, with her family. We pray for the Lurias, as well as everyone whom Kelsey touched.
With Kelsey's passing, the family will be working to bring some of Kelsey's dreams for helping other teens diagnosed with leukemia -- to ease their burden a bit -- to life. You can learn more and support these plans at www.baldbeautiesproject.org. You can make a tax-deductable contribution there.
Sweet Kelsey Luria has been in one hospital or another since November 4, 2014, with almost no respite. She has been fighting AML leukemia with every ounce of her being. Kelsey has endured four rounds of chemotherapy - always with the attitude of a warrior, and now she needs our help.
Her journey has been difficult, and her disease is complex. Though she has suffered complications and set backs, her path had been moving forward.
Unfortunately, recent weeks have tested her. Kelsey, and her family, need our financial support. The last several weeks have been the most difficult, and Kelsey has far to go before she can rest.
Kelsey has been getting excellent care from the doctors and nurses at Banner UMC, but with her recent, multi-system complications, they recognized that she needs even more specialized attention.
On April 2, a team from UCLA flew to Tucson to pick up Kelsey and take her to Los Angeles in a specially equipped medical jet. Michael and Maya had to fly over, alone, to meet her. The very best doctors continue to attend to her life-threatening liver and cardiac complications, while managing the rest of her fragile state. She will be in UCLA's pediatric intensive care unit for a while where she is in the fight of her life.
Michael and Maya are committed to being with Kelsey, and this will require travel to and from LA; looking after Max, a freshman at Catalina Foothills High School; and even more absences from work. Travel and medical expenses are mounting.
