The Story

On Fri, Mar 27, the Ohio Dept of Agriculture served a warrant on a home in Mechanicsburg, OH. On the premises were 137 dogs, living in deplorable conditions. There were 35-40 German Shorthaired Pointers seized, and close to 100 Beagles.

These dogs have been living a life in filth, with little to no sunlight, not able to touch the grass. They will soon be on their way to bright futures.

Eight GSP Rescue groups around the country will be offering safe haven to these lovely dogs. GSPCA National Rescue has pledged to assist with their initial vetting and boarding, but due to the severe neglect of their former lives, most will also require treatment for conditions such as cherry eye, chronic ear infections, teeth extractions, skin infections, and much more.

We are asking for donations to assist with their care needs. Every dollar donated will be placed into a special fund for these dogs. The total raised will be allocated to the nationally affiliated GSP Rescue groups that have committed to their care and responsible placement:

Great Plains Pointer Rescue
GSP Rescue New England
GSP Rescue of New Jersey
GSP Rescue Pennsylvania
Illinois Shorthair Rescue
Ohio Shorthair Rescue
Texas GSP Rescue
Wisconsin GSP Rescue

8 dogs from the Mechanicsburg, OH raid left for their new foster homes in IL and WI today. I have tears in my eyes seeing photos of them loaded up and on their way to their new lives. Many thanks to Illinois Shorthair Rescue and Wisconsin GSP Rescue for taking dogs into their program and making the drive with a cargo van so that the dogs wouldn't be subjected to a multi-leg transport, Kathy Edington for pulling and fostering 3 dogs, Balmorhea Kennels in Dayton for taking 5 dogs in at the last minute during a busy holiday week, Melissa & Bob Campbell for pulling them from the shelter, and Montgomery ARC for offering safe haven for over 50 dogs the day of the raid! It truly takes a village. ♥  ~Cheryl (Ohio Shorthair Rescue)
