Thanks to many caring people, Valentine was finally rescued after running scared for several days, probably weeks, and being hit by at least two cars.
He was spotted on Sunday, Feb. 9th in Ladue, Missouri, during a heavy snowstorm, but unfortunately could not be caught. Four days later he was found and rescued in St. Charles, Missouri, 12 miles away, after witnesses first saw him hit by a car in the morning. At 6:00 that night, a mile away from the previous location, he was hit by another car. With a severely fractured and dislocated leg, he finally gave up. An animal loving police officer stopped traffic and took him to Animal Control. Because of the severity of the injury, in most cases the dog would have been euthanized due to lack of funds. But word got out on social media that this was the same dog spotted on Sunday, and we were able, with the help and concern of many, to get him to a vet. Doctors there gave us the option of amputating his leg or trying to repair it. We opted to save the leg be performing a femoral head and neck excision, which will require follow up visits and physical therapy. But with all the love surrounding him, he should heal well and enjoy a full and happy life.
P.S. The officer who rescued him is interested in possibly adopting him! Paws crossed!
