The Story

We would like to reach out to our friends and family and others who might take interest or feel compelled to offer support to a special family in need. We are asking that you consider helping financially with this fundraiser if your budget allows. We cannot imagine allowing our dear friends, the Gilmore family of Cedar Park, Texas, to fight this alone.  One way we know we can make an impact is to lift some of the burden of their medical bills.

Charlie Gilmore is a wonderful husband and committed father to three young, energetic boys. His wife, Megan took him to the hospital on December 22nd because he had been having face twitches with minor paralysis and migraines that would not allow him to get out of bed. After scans and an MRI he learned that he had a brain tumor.  Surgery was immediately scheduled for December 30th, and after the tumor was removed his family got the news that the tumor was cancerous. The pathology report confirmed that he has grade 4 glioblastoma, and needs to start chemotherapy and radiation as well as using some alternative methods for treatment. Charlie is the sole financial provider for their family and an active father in the evenings. His diagnosis is certainly going to affect their every day lives and their pocket book, but it will not keep him from fighting.

We are so blessed to have them in our lives and ask that you consider supporting our fundraiser by either donating, forwarding their story or both.

Charlie is doing well his first week of treatment.  He is experiencing some fatigue but he has no complaints.

We have all been settling into our new routine at our home.  Every night I put the boys to bed.  Every night Charlie and I hang out together sometimes discussing important things other times discussing not-so- important things.  And every night when the house is quiet I look at this screen and try to update our status.  I want to write something profound and poetic to all of you but nothing comes to mind that allows me to express how grateful, thankful, and appreciative we are of all of you.  The love we feel from our friends, family, teachers, and strangers takes my breath away everytime I think about what you have done for us.

A world that is made up of people like you is a world that I want our boys to grow up in.  Thank you for showing us such a kind world!  Thank you for the donations, prayers, hugs, and smiles.  We appreciate every single one of them.

Here is the latest update from Charlie regarding his treatment plan:

Not much to update, but I thought I would lay out the plan going forward so everyone knows where I'm at in the process.
I start radiation and chemo on Monday. That will last for 6 weeks. Chemo everyday and radiation 5 days a week getting the weekends off.
After the 6 weeks of treatment, I will get no treatment for 3 weeks so my brain can heal from the radiation. At that point, I will get an MRI to establish a post initial treatment image. Once I've been off for 3 weeks, ...I will then start on a higher dose of Chemo for 5 days on/ 23 days off for 12 months. At some point in the extended maintenance treatment process electric field therapy will be added. During these 12 months I will be getting an MRI every 8 weeks.
Also, I believe due to a higher power's influence and for reasons that are pretty obvious now, I have been gathering all kinds of material on cancer for the last 6 years and have a theory for a cure that I will also be implementing during the medical treatment. I'm not posting my plan on Facebook, but plan on putting together a word document with my plan as well as my story for those that are interested, you can send me an email at [email protected] if you would like on the distribution list. I've not yet started on the document, so please be patient.
I've returned to work. Still get tired quickly, but feel great most of the time. I am still overwhelmed by the amount goodness and good people we have in our family's life. Thank you all so very much. Charlie.

Update as of January 9th.

Charlie continues to heal after surgery and is starting to feel much better.  He is feeling optimistic and is ready to put up a good fight.  Your financial support, prayers and encouraging words are so appreciated.

He has an upcoming appointment with MD Anderson for an evaluation, where they will learn much more about the details of what to expect and how they plan to move forward with treatment. They hope to be able to collaborate with their Austin doctors for treatment in order to be closer to home as much as possible.

Your generous donations and outpouring of love and encouragement have been amazing for their family.  Not having financial strain during such a critcal time when they need to focus on healing and gaining strength before treatment is so important, and they appreciate everything so much.

We will update again when we have something to report.

Blessings to all of you and your families for happiness and health.
