The Story

Avivah Werner is a friend I share with thousands. She's a mother a ten and a blogger that has inspired too many people to count. The  goodness she puts in the world cannot be measured.
This year (you can read the blog) has been incredibly tough as the Werner's moved to Israel, had a child struggle anorexia and gave birth to a baby with Down Syndrome.
They had two of their children nearly die in the same year.
On April 1, a can of cosmetic wax exploded in Avivah's face as she was heating it up for use. This was something she had done safely dozens of times before. In less then a second her face was covered, a searing, burning mask of heat.
. Living in Northern Israel, it took about 15 minutes for the ambulances to come. During that time, she had to be there with her traumatized little children, with her face in agony, frantically trying to cool down the burns.
She was admitted to the hospital burn unit and is going through treatments. By a miracle, her eyes were spared because of her glasses.
She needs our help.
Going forward
  • Passover is coming - We have arranged a Passover hotel at a third of the price through a charity organization. She will be able to rest and her family of 12 will be fully cared for 3 meals a day for 9,500. (Usual cost of Passover hotels - upwards of $3,000 a person.) the deadline for that goal is Thursday,April 10th when the hotel needs to be paid.
  • Money for basic living - her husband is able to work even less hours in his job as a technical writer, now that he is in charge of the kids.
  • Money for help in the house - She has small children and will not be able to leave the house during daylight hours for six months due to her burnt face.
  • Money for medical expenses. Israel has a socialized medicine program but that does not include many medical expenses she'll have, or private doctors.
Please donate and please read her blog.http://avivahwerner.com/ I want you to know this courageous spirit. You won't see a word of complaint there. Only honesty and gratitude. But don't let that fool you  - no matter how strong she is, she is in need of our help.
Her full name is Avivah Michaela Bas Sarah
Thank you!

Dearest Friends.
We did it. We set out to help someone and by the strength of our unity we did.
Avivah has a long personal journey to go on - but if you know her, you know that she's always on a journey. Always growing, always giving. I'm gratfeul that we were able to be there together for this wonderful woman and inspiring friend.
Thank you FRIENDS! My grandfather lways used to say "A stranger is a friend you haven't yet met." Now we've met - and its been an honor.
Wishing you all the best,
Rivka Malka
PS If you chance upon this pge after this post, please note that the fundraiser is still open and your money will be transfered so that it reaches them, even if you donate at a later date.

This afternoon I called Avivah. She was with her husband Osher, in Jerusalem at an appointment with a specialist. Because they were busy our conversation was short.
Two things came out of it though.
1. I realized again what a daunting struggle they are facing. It takes over two hours to travel from Karmiel, where they live, to Jerusalem. Its an exhausting and expensive trip. And it's one they may have to do many times in the upcoming days. And like many Israeli's they don't have a car. These will be grueling bus rides.
2. The Werner's are givers - not takers. Yet I heard somethig in Osher's voice. I'm going to call it relief.I asked him about this fundraiser and he said "At first it was uncomfortable, but now we accept that this is really what we need."
I'll tell you what folks. Not only do they need it, but we need it too. We need to have this experience of seeing that kindness makes the world go round. Of seeing how truly GOOD and connected we all are.
Just look at how we're coming together. Maybe this is the light the world has been waiting for. To raise this amount of money in just over 24 hours is a miracle from G-d and it points to the miracle that is US, as well.
Let's keep on pushing to reach our goal. We can do it!Share the link like crazy. Push it through. It's happening!

Here is an update from Avivah Werner. Sh'e sleaing the hospital today - Notice her self awreness, lack of slef pity and utter gratitude for life. I’m leaving the hospital! The staff would have had me stay longer but I told them I have little kids who are really missing me.  I also told them this last week and they told me there’s no doctor in the world who would release me in the state I was in.  But now it’s okay.

I am so grateful for this hospital experience.  I’ve unfortunately had a lot of experiences with hospitals in the last 22 months – two different wards for me after my last birth, six hospital stays with three of my kids that were each at least ten days long, then my mom had two hip replacement surgeries and was in the orthopedic ward and then a couple more weeks each time in the rehabilitation hospital and now I’m here.  So I’ve seen a number of different hospitals and different units and have plenty to compare to....
