A Mothers Worst NightmareOn 12/20/2011 this mother's worst nightmare came true. That was the night East Tennessee Children's Hospital did a CT scan to find out what was causing her son's nausea and headaches. The doctors came in and told them that their only baby boy had a brain tumor. My nephew and his wife, David and Kristi Crippen, just stood there stunned wondering how to tell a child he has a brain tumor and may die. About 18 hours later Wyatt was transferred to Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee and had his first surgery was performed on 12/22/11.
The WaitingWhile the doctors were reviewing the post-op scans with my nephew and his wife, they were told about another area that concerned them. My nephew and his wife had to travel to Nashville every three months for MRI's as followup. Doctors at Vanderbilt continued to watch the area from the post-op MRIs every 3 month's for the next year and told them that Wyatt had another tumor that would require surgery. Surgery # 2was performed on January 15, 2013.
The Followup'sAgain the doctors have been watching the MRI scans for the past 11 months. Apparently all of the second tumor was not completely removed and has grown back in the same spot. Right now Surgery # 3 is scheduled for January 22, 2014.
Each surgery is approximately $175,000. My nephew's insurance only covers part of the expenses. And for certain procedures then pay nothing. What they still owe and need help with.
Our Ask for Help
$30,000: For the First Surgery
$30,000: For the Second Surgery
Estimated $30,00 for the Third Surgery
They also have to pay for the MRI's which are not covered by insurance. These cost my nephew $1000 each.
These expenses do not even include the lost wages, travel expenses, living expenses when they stay in Nashville for the surgeries, and the list goes on.
We are grateful for anything you can give. And if you aren't in a position to give, we ask that you please hold Wyatt, his family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers over the next few months.
Due to other big fundraising activites we decided to end our online fundraising early. It's only possible to do so much. You can find out about those activites at Wyatt's Facebook prayer group.
