The Story

Dawson was admitted to American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 after three visits on three consecutive nights to the ER for what was first hives that then developed into purple discoloration and severe pain in his lower body.

After several days of not knowing what was causing this, he has been diagnosed with a very rare condition called Purpura fulminans, a destructive infection that attacks both skin and soft tissues.

He recently had all the skin removed from his legs, and will be undergoing many surgeries, including skin grafts, to repair his legs.  Whether or not he will be able to keep his toes and/or feet is still unknown.

Your donation will help the family with upcoming medical bills, lost wages, and medical equipment.   You can donate online via this website, or mail donations to:

Update From Beth:

"First off, thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the family members, friends, and even strangers that have donated. On June 7, 2013, doctors confirmed that Dawson will have both of his feet amputated, above the ankle, but hopefully below the calf.He is currently scheduled for not only the amputations, but also the skin graft of his legs on Tuesday, June 25th.Dawson has a long road ahead of him, including full rehab and eventually prosthetics. It will take some time for Dawson to be ready for prosthetics, so in the meantime, when he does come home, he will be coming home in a wheelchair. We will have to make our house wheelchair accessible, and will have to purchase Dawson a new bed, since his current bed requires him to climb up a metal railing to get in to – and that’s just for starters.Your donations help us prepare for our new normal, and we can’t thank you enough for your generosity.XOXO, Beth"
