The Story

This is a fundraiser for Tyler Kussad and his family to assit in medical bills during his recovery at Brackenridge Hospital and when he is released into inpatient care for therapies and eventually coming home.  Tyler sustained serious head injuries on Thursday, January 16, 2014.

Tyler is a fun loving teenager who loves to go hog hunting and fishing with his friends.  He also loves to go to the lake and beach with his family and friends.  Tyler has two older siblings, their names are Zacary and Kayla.  His mom, Lori, and dad, Ziad are so proud of the young man he as become and just pray daily that he heals quickly and with few to none complications as possible.

The family realizes that his recovery will take time and are so thankful to all the first responders, entire Lexington communitiy, and many family and friends all over for their prayers and support.  A big heart felt "Thank You" to you all!

A bank account has been opened in Ziad Kussad's name for the benefit of Tyler Kussad at Prosperty Bank.  You can go to any location and make a donation, or simply make one on this webpage with Paypal.

Tyler has been moved to The Central Texas Rehab Hospital on 45th and Guadalupe this evening. He is walking, and talking great!  He is scheduled to be there for 7 days, but Ziad hopes that he might actually only need a few days.  Tyler's memory is doing great as well.  The only thing that he does not remember is what happened to him.  (which I guess is a good thing)  Tyler keeps saying he is ready to go home, he is tired of staying at the hospital.

Ziad is so proud of how well Tyler is doing and attributes it all to the power of prayer.  He is very thankful for everyone that has prayed, supported, and visited him through all of his recovery.  Please continue to pray and support him as he atttends all of his therapies and hopes to go home soon and return to school and all his normal activities.

Tyler is in room 315, if anyone wants to visit him the visiting hours are from 4:30-8:30pm.

Just spoke to Ziad. Tyler is doing well. He has been able to keep food down today and has even walked with assistance down the hallways. They will do another cat scan tomorrow. He is still having bad headaches. If all things go well they are hoping he can move to the rehab facility by Sunday or Monday.

The wonderful power of prayer.

PRAYER Warriors....please read this...

I just got off the phone with Ziad and just when he thought things were moving great this morning....The neurologist ordered a cat scan and determined that Tyler has fluid building back up in his brain.  They will be taking him into surgery within 1 hour and try to make a small incision to remove the fluid.  There are 3 pockets that are holding fluid and one looks like it might be hardening.  The fluid that is building up in the left side of his brain is pushing the right side of his brain. This is most likely one of the causes of him not being able to eat and walking.  They may have to take a part of his skull to release the pressure and get the fluid.  If that happens they will make a 3- 4 inch incision and pull his scalp back to get to his skull.  They said they would be putting it back afterwards.  Sorry to be so graphic...but want everyone to know the severity of this surgery.  The surgery will take a minimum of 1 1/2 hours.  He will have the catheter placed back in his brain to continue to drain fluid and go back into ICU for a minimum of 24 hours and then start the process over again working towards getting him to the rehab facility I spoke about earlier today.  Please be in prayer for Tyler, the surgeons, Ziad, Lori, and the entire family.  They are shaken by this news.  I told him that I would send this out and get prayers started immediately.  Thank you all!!!!

Just spoke to Ziad this morning. Tyler is still having trouble keeping food down. The doctors say that it will just take time for the stomach to accept food since he was on a feeding tube for so long. He is also having memory problems and confused on what year it is. All of this should also come with time.

Ziad is checking out The Central Texas Rehab Center on 45th and Guadelope. Tyler will be moved there within the next 3 days. They will set him up for an initial stay of 7 days and then will decide at that point if he needs longer. His neurologist will follow him there and they will set up a program for him for therapies and all. They also have programs for brain injuries that he will be a part of.

Ziad had mentioned that Tyler has taken a few steps with a walker, but can not stand long or walk on his own. Tyler had seemed down yesterday then a friend from school showed up and his face just lit up. Said said that was great to see. He said more friends plan to visit today.

Thank you all for your prayers, visits, and donations. They are all greatly appreciated. We know Tyler has a long road ahead, and they are thankful for every moment they have with him in his recovery!

UPDATE ON Tyler Kussad:
I spoke with Ziad just now, he said that Tyler has been moved to the 6th floor and is one step down from ICU.  He is expected to be there for a couple of days and then be moved to another floor for 3-5 days.  At that time he is expected to be moved to an inpatient facility for all kinds of therapy to help him.  He has some memory and coordination issues and he has been evaluated with several specialist today.  Tyler is very tired right now.  He is confused as to what year it is and what month we are in.  He thinks it is 2013. He does not remember what happened to him, he thinks that they were in a wreck and that is why he is in the hospital.  He seems a bit depressed and confused as to what is all going on.  Lots of therapist have been in his room asking him all kinds of questions.  He is having trouble counting backwards.  They did start him on some soft foods, but he is having a hard time keeping them down.  They said it could take a couple of days for him to be able to keep the food down.  Many doctors and nurses that worked on him in the ICU have gone to see him and say that they feel it is a miracle that he is recovering a lot better than they anticipated.  When I asked about having visitors Ziad said that of course either he or Lori are always by his side.  They would like a couple of days to give him some time.  Ziad said that some friends can come on Tues or Wed.  He did mention that Tyler's brain is still swollen, but it has gone down considerably.  He is very thankful for all the prayers and asks that they continue as his son has a long recovery ahead.  I plan to have the website ready tomorrow and will post it as soon as I am done.  Thank you all!
