"Could you imagine going through this without friends?"
Kailyn Forsberg entered this world just over 15 years ago with a drive to perform and a passion to compete. She’s a sweet, caring, feisty mountain girl who is a lot of fun to be around and is one of the toughest kids we know. Her passions are many; football, basketball, hunting, fishing, lacrosse, and skiing among the top of the list. She’s an active kid, a natural athlete, and a high performer. Kailyn was walking at nine months and on skis for the first time at 1 year old. In addition to sports, she enjoys hanging out with friends and playing video games.
As we all know, competing in sports at a high level brings with it significant risks. Kailyn was exercising her competitive spirit in pursuit of a USASA National Freeskiing Championship at Copper Mountain, CO April 4 – 7, 2015. After placing 2nd nationally in two disciplines in preceding days, on April 7th Kailyn unfortunately experienced a traumatic crash on the slopestyle course. The injuries were significant, including a broken pelvis, dislocated hip, and most concerning a fracture of her C-7 vertebrae impacting the spinal cord. Kailyn was immediately air lifted to Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. She underwent extensive surgery. Kailyn currently has no motor movement and minimal feeling from the chest down. We are all hoping and praying for recovery, and at the same time know Kailyn’s long term struggle has just begun.
Kailyn’s life quickly jumped onto a new and challenging path on April 7th. Please help support this hard working, competitive young fighter down her long road of healing by contributing to Kailyn’s care and rehabilitation. While a portion of her care will be covered by health insurance, the current view of the rehabilitation timeframe is "years" and long term costs projected into 7 figures. Insurance will not cover all of this. 100% of proceeds will go directly towards medical, rehabilitative, and long term care expenses. Help us hit our fundraising goal by Kailyn’s sweet 16th on January 24, 2016!
