Nadine Sfeir is my sister - my wonderful, beautiful, inspiring big sister.
Her dream is to make this world better; which she plans on doing through pursuing a life as an international human-rights attorney. She has always inspired me to do my part everyday in making this earth and myself better, in any way possible. She constantly brightens any room she walks into and makes those around her want to be better. Nadine has given so much hope for a better life to so many people and now it's her turn to feel the hope that she will have a future.
Her life was flipped inside out and upside down when she turned 24 years old. In November 2010 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, an astrocytoma. My mind immediately was reeling: my sister has cancer? She's my older sister…How could that even be true - she's young and perfect…it didn't seem real. Yet for the past three years this has been a constant reality and struggle undergoing 2 brain surgeries with many types of chemo and radiation therapies. We have been told by countless doctors that “ this is going to work!” in the hopes that this would be the one to end this nightmare. Yet nothing has resulted in even a delay in the relentless monster's journey.
We recently received news that there is only a couple of more options…a thought that we all don't want to believe to be final. But there it is…one last hope. There is high hope in this treatment called Novocure and a vaccine treatment in Germany. Unfortunately the only available treatments are considered exploratory and the insurance has denied our appeal. As we reappeal their decision we have no choice but to start treatment with $4,000/month for Novocure, $9,000/month for Gammadelta T cell vaccine and $70,000 for the Newcastle Virus and dendric Cell vaccine. These treatments are more than we can afford. We are asking everyone - friends, family, acquaintances, anyone…to please help us save my sister. She is my big sister, my mentor, my friend - I have based everything of whom I want to become off of her. I need her, we all need her. So we are all asking for any kind of donation that could at least give us this hope for a future for my sister: for a woman who wants nothing more than to help others.
